Chapter 3: Beyond Any Price Tag

The young man walked with a steady, unbothered stride toward the center of the room. He stopped just a few paces from Alyssa, keeping his intense, dark gaze fixed directly on Richard on the stage.

"I am not placing a one-million-dollar bid to buy her," the stranger spoke clearly. His voice was deep and resonant enough that even without a microphone, it echoed perfectly off the high ceilings.

Richard scoffed, trying to regain his footing. "Then what the hell are you standing up for?"

The young man paused for a fraction of a second. He took a subtle, natural breath, his eyes shifting from the arrogant tycoon to Alyssa’s tear-stained face. He gave her a slight, reassuring nod. Then, looking back at the stage, he delivered his final blow:

"I am offering one million dollars... to remind you, and everyone in this room, that she is priceless. And the word 'priceless' means she cannot be bought with your dirty money."

Alyssa gasped, a sob escaping her throat as she quickly covered her mouth with both hands. In the darkest, most humiliating second of her life, when her own husband had valued her at ten dollars, a total stranger had stood up to throw down a million just to give her back her dignity.

Richard turned white, his hands trembling as he stared in disbelief. Slowly, a few claps broke out from the back. Within seconds, it erupted into a roaring, thunderous standing ovation that shook the entire ballroom.

That night, Alyssa knew her old life was dead. She was no longer Richard's trophy doll. The stranger in black stepped closer, politely offering his hand to her. Without a single trace of hesitation, Alyssa placed her hand in his, turned her back on her husband, and walked out into the cool night air—leaving behind a broken marriage and a one-million-dollar legend that would whisper through New York for years to come.
