Chapter 13 - MOM LEFT ONE CLUE THEY DIDN’T NOTICE

During Thomas’s trial, prosecutors needed one final piece connecting him directly to the wheelchair sabotage.

Colin testified.

Lauren testified.

But defense attorneys called them unreliable accomplices.

Then Mom remembered something.

Her wheelchair had a small maintenance app.

Bluetooth diagnostics.

I had completely forgotten.

The system logged brake calibration.

Dates.

Times.

Device identifiers.

We pulled the record.

Three weeks before the lake:

Brake cable tension manually altered.

Connected device:

CM-MOBILITY-77.

Colin Mercer’s repair tablet.

Then another log.

The morning of the resort trip:

Brake resistance checked by a second device.

TK-BOARD01.

Thomas Keller’s corporate tablet.

Silence filled the prosecutor’s office.

My uncle had personally verified the sabotage that morning.

He was not merely financier.

He participated.

Mom smiled coldly.

“He always liked checking other people’s work.”

That digital log became devastating evidence.

Thomas was convicted on every major count.

When the verdict was read, he looked at Mom.

She did not look back.

She watched the judge.

Power shift complete.

Afterward, outside court, reporters shouted questions.

Mom ignored all of them.

Then she asked me:

“Lunch?”

I laughed.

“That's it?”

“What else?”

“You just watched your brother get convicted.”

“Yes.”

“You don't want to say something profound?”

She thought.

“I want fries.”

So we got fries.
