Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

Sienna stared at him, her heart skipping a beat. "What are you saying, Lucian?"

"I'm offering you a devil's bargain," Lucian said, a small, knowing smile playing on his lips. "Stay. Not as a guest. Not as an employee. As family. You can have your own wing of the estate. You can oversee the charitable foundations we run, put your medic skills to use funding clinics in the city. Whatever you want. But you stay with us. You help me raise Lily."

Sienna looked into his eyes. She saw the ruthless mafia boss, yes. But she also saw the fiercely protective father, the man who had looked past the dirt and the rags to see the woman underneath. He was offering her a lifeline. He was offering her a home.

"And if I say yes?" Sienna asked, her voice trembling slightly. "What are we, Lucian?"

Lucian leaned down, his face inches from hers. "We figure that out together. One day at a time. But I promise you this, Sienna Hayes: you will never be cold, you will never be hungry, and you will never fight alone again."

Sienna closed her eyes, a single tear escaping and sliding down her cheek. It wasn't a tear of grief for the child she had lost, but a tear of hope for the child she had saved, and the life she could finally begin to rebuild.

"Okay," Sienna whispered, opening her eyes. "I'll stay."

Lucian let out a breath, a bright, undeniable joy sparking in his eyes. He leaned down and pressed a soft, lingering kiss to her forehead. "Welcome home, Sienna."

Six months later, the cold concrete of the overpass was nothing but a distant memory.

Sienna stood on the sun-drenched balcony of the Moretti estate, sipping a cup of hot coffee. She wore a tailored white blouse and dark slacks, her hair pulled back into a neat braid. The scars on her arm and cheek had faded to faint white lines, badges of honor rather than marks of trauma.

Below her, in the sprawling green gardens, Lily was running across the grass, laughing hysterically as a golden retriever puppy chased her.

Sienna smiled, feeling a profound sense of peace settle over her chest. The grief of her past would always be there, a shadow in her heart, but it no longer defined her. She had found a new purpose.

Strong arms wrapped around her waist from behind. The smell of rich cologne and clean linen enveloped her. Lucian rested his chin on her shoulder, pulling her back against his chest.

"She's going to exhaust that dog before noon," Lucian murmured, pressing a kiss to her neck.

"Or the dog will exhaust her," Sienna laughed softly, leaning into his embrace.

"How are you feeling today?" he asked, his hands resting over hers on the balcony railing.

"Like the luckiest woman in Chicago," Sienna replied honestly.

Lucian turned her around, his dark eyes filled with a love that had entirely replaced the cold ruthlessness of his past. He reached up, tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear. "No, Sienna. I'm the lucky one. You saved us."

Sienna smiled, reaching up to cup his face. She thought back to that cold morning, the rusted metal rod, the blood on the asphalt. It felt like a lifetime ago. The homeless woman who had thrown herself in front of a blade was gone.

In her place stood the queen of the Chicago underworld, the protector of the Moretti empire, and a mother who had finally found her way home.

As Lucian leaned in to kiss her, the sound of Lily's joyous laughter drifting up from the garden below, Sienna knew she would never need to hold a rusted metal rod again. Her hands were finally full.
