Chapter 8 - The Betrayal Revealed

The underground garage of the Moretti estate was a cavern of polished concrete housing a dozen luxury vehicles. It was dimly lit by emergency strobes, casting long, frantic shadows across the sleek cars.
Sienna and Lucian burst through the heavy fire doors, weapons raised.
At the far end of the garage, near a reinforced steel door that marked the entrance to the escape tunnel, stood Marcus. He had one arm wrapped tightly around Lily, pressing a hand over her mouth to stifle her screams. In his other hand, he held a heavy revolver, aimed directly at the tunnel entrance where a black SUV was idling, driven by a Bratva soldier.
Marcus had sold them out. He had orchestrated the entire siege to deliver Lucian's heir directly to the Russian mob.
"Marcus!" Lucian roared, his voice echoing off the concrete walls like a thunderclap.
Marcus spun around, using Lily as a human shield. The little girl was crying hysterically, her eyes wide with terror as she looked at her father and Sienna.
"Don't take another step, Lucian!" Marcus shouted, his polished veneer completely gone, replaced by the desperate panic of a cornered rat.
Lucian froze, his gun aimed but his finger hovering off the trigger. He couldn't risk the shot. Not with Lily in the way. "Let her go, Marcus. You want money? Territory? It's yours. Just let my daughter go."
Marcus laughed, a harsh, jagged sound. "It's too late for that. The Russians promised me your throne, Lucian. You've gotten soft. You let a street rat sleep in the guest wing. You aren't a king anymore."
"You coward," Sienna spat, stepping out from behind Lucian. She kept her gun lowered, making herself a target, drawing his attention. "You need a child to fight your battles?"
"Shut up, you homeless trash!" Marcus snarled, pointing his gun at Sienna for a fraction of a second.
"Sienna, no," Lucian warned quietly.
Sienna didn't listen. She began to walk forward, slowly, methodically. "You think you're tough, Marcus? I've met street junkies with more spine than you. You're pathetic."
"I said stop!" Marcus aimed the gun back at Lily's head, his hand shaking.
Sienna stopped. She was ten feet away. Close enough to see the tear tracks on Lily's face. Close enough to see the raw fear in the child's eyes. Sienna made a split-second decision. She looked at Lily, making direct eye contact, and gave a tiny, almost imperceptible nod.
Lily, remembering the brave woman who had hit the bad men with a bat, understood.
With a sudden, violent twist, Lily bit down hard on the fleshy part of Marcus's hand covering her mouth.
Marcus howled in pain, his grip loosening for a fraction of a second.
That was all Sienna needed.
She didn't shoot. She knew a gunshot might cause Marcus's finger to jerk on the trigger. Instead, she threw herself forward, tackling Marcus around the waist.
The two of them slammed onto the hard concrete. The revolver discharged, the bullet ricocheting off the ceiling with a deafening crack. Lily scrambled away, running straight into Lucian's arms.
"Get her out of here!" Sienna screamed as she wrestled with Marcus.
Marcus was bigger, stronger, and uninjured. He drove a brutal elbow into Sienna's fractured ribs. White-hot agony exploded in her chest, knocking the breath from her lungs. She gasped, her grip loosening.
Marcus shoved her off, scrambling for his dropped gun. He grabbed it, rolling onto his back, and aimed it right at Sienna's chest.

"Die, you bitch," Marcus hissed.
Sienna closed her eyes, waiting for the impact.
