Chapter 7 - THE CONFRONTATION

The meeting was set for Monday morning at Sarah’s office.
Evelyn arrived accompanied by Mr. Vance, her lawyer. She walked into the conference room with her head held
high, wearing a designer cream-colored suit, looking like a queen entering her court. She looked at me with pure
disdain.
"I hope you’ve brought the keys to my house, Leo," she said, sitting down and crossing her elegant legs. "My
moving crew is scheduled for tomorrow morning."
I didn't answer. I sat opposite her, with Sarah by my side.
Sarah opened a large black leather folder and slid a single sheet of paper across the table to Mr. Vance. It was
the registration document for Aura Holdings LLC, alongside ten years of bank statements showing the monthly
fifty-thousand-dollar transfers.
Mr. Vance picked up the paper. As he read it, the color drained completely from his face. He looked at Evelyn,
his eyes wide with shock.
"Evelyn..." he muttered, his voice cracking. "What is this?"
"It’s nothing," Evelyn said quickly, though her eyes narrowed as she glared at Sarah. "Just some private
investments I made for the family's future."
"No, Mrs. Vance," Sarah said, her voice echoing in the quiet room. "It is embezzlement. You have
systematically siphoned three million dollars from the Vance Family Trust—money meant for Leo and his brother
—into an offshore shell company to fund your personal villa in France and your private expenses. You did this
without the consent of the beneficiaries, which is a severe criminal offense."
"You have no proof of that!" Evelyn hissed, her composure finally beginning to fracture.
Sarah slid another folder across. "This is the complete audit of the trust accounts, including the wire transfer
receipts signed by you. We have also already prepared a formal complaint for the Internal Revenue Service and the
federal prosecutor's office. If these documents are filed, you will not only lose your status as trustee, but you will
likely spend the rest of your life in a federal penitentiary."
Evelyn stared at the papers. The proud, untouchable woman who had dominated my life suddenly looked
fragile. Her breathing became shallow, her eyes darting from the documents to her lawyer.
"Vance," she whispered. "Tell them this is nonsense. Fix this."
Mr. Vance slowly pushed the papers back to Sarah. He looked at Evelyn with a mixture of pity and professional
detachment. "Evelyn... if they file this, I cannot defend you. The paper trail is absolute. You are facing severe
criminal charges. My advice to you is to listen to their terms."
Evelyn’s head snapped toward me, her face contorting with rage. "You would do this to your own mother? After
everything I did for you? I raised you! I gave you life!"
May you like
"You raised me to be your servant," I said, my voice calm, steady, and entirely free of fear. "You tried to destroy
my wife. You tried to steal my son. You are not a mother, Evelyn. You are a predator. And your time is up."
