Chapter 18 - The Confession on Tape

Victoria’s finger tightened over the red button of the detonator, her eyes wild with a mixture of terror and absolute malice. The ocean breeze whipped her silver hair around her face, making her look like a frantic specter of the empire she had fought so hard to preserve.

“You’re insane, Mother!” Liam roared, clutching baby Leo tighter against his chest. “Drop it! Let the boy go with his mother! We can still salvage something out of this ash!”

“Salvage?” Victoria shrieked, her voice cracking with pure venom. “There is nothing left to salvage! You weak fool! You let this outsider ruin decades of blood, sweat, and absolute dominance because of a pathetic flash of sentimentality!”

Avery didn’t flinch. Her heart hammered against her ribs, but her gaze remained ice-cold. She slowly raised her right hand, her thumb hovering over her jacket collar. Hidden inside the button of her collar was a high-gain micro-transmitter, broadcasting every single word straight to Elena’s live feed and the federal servers halfway across the world.

“Keep talking, Victoria,” Avery said softly, stepping another inch closer onto the marble terrace. “The entire world is listening to your confession right now. Every media outlet, every federal prosecutor, and every single investor you’ve ever swindled.”

Victoria froze, her eyes widening in sudden horror as she realized the trap. She looked down at Liam, then back at Avery. “You... you tricked me.”

“I learned from the best,” Avery replied, her voice steady and lethal.
