Chapter 20 - The Open Crown

Three months later, the financial district of Manhattan was quiet under a blanket of autumn leaves. The Sterling monolith still stood against the skyline, but the name carved into its marble base was covered by a temporary tarp, awaiting judicial liquidation.
Avery sat on a bench in Central Park, the crisp morning wind brushing past her cheek. In her lap, baby Leo gurgled happily, clutching a small wooden toy in his tiny fingers. Across the pathway, Elena stood holding a tablet, a triumphant grin on her face.
“The final asset seizure is complete,” Elena announced, stepping closer. “The SEC has dismantled the entire offshore network. Victoria is facing consecutive life sentences without parole, and Liam took a plea deal to testify against the shadow syndicate in exchange for witness protection security. He’s gone, Avery. Completely out of the picture.”
Avery looked down at Leo, brushing a soft curl from his forehead. She felt no triumph, only a deep, profound sense of peace. She wasn't a victim anymore, and she wasn't a trophy wife hiding behind a billionaire's shadow. She was entirely free.
Elena slid a sleek, black leather folder onto the park bench next to Avery’s bag. “By the way... the liquidators found something hidden in the primary Sterling trust. A controlling stake in the Valley District land, completely unencumbered. It’s legally yours. All of it.”

Avery picked up the folder, tracing the gold-embossed seal with her fingertips. She looked out toward the towering skyscrapers reflecting the morning sun, knowing that a new world lay ahead, waiting to be built from the ashes.
“Let them keep their skyscrapers,” Avery whispered, kissing the top of her son's head as a quiet, confident smile touched her lips. “We’re going home.”
