Chapter 8 - The Rescue

Logan did not waste another second pleading with the monsters behind the glass.
Seeing Elena's eyes close, he knew they would die right before his eyes.
"Hold on to him, Elena," Logan whispered, placing the baby securely in her arms.
He grabbed his heavy, steel-framed military duffel bag and swung it with all his
might against the glass. CRASH! The thick pane shattered into a thousand pieces, the
cold winter wind rushing into the heated living room.
"What are you doing?!" Richard screamed, dropping his wine glass as it shattered
on the hardwood floor. "Get out of my house! Veguards! Lock this lunatic up!"
Logan stepped through the broken frame, his face covered in snow and rage. "Shut
up!" he roared, his voice shaking the chandeliers. "If you take one step toward her, I will
end you right here!"
He gently picked up Elena and the baby, laying them on the plush rug in front of
the roaring fireplace, wrapping them in dry, expensive blankets from the sofa. "You're
safe now, Elena. I'm here. I'm never leaving you again."
Suddenly, three security guards rushed into the room with guns drawn. "Don't
move, soldier!" the lead guard yelled.
BANG!
The front doors of the mansion were kicked open with explosive force. A tactical
squad of Logan's active-duty military brothers, led by Captain Henderson, stormed the
room with rifles drawn.
"Drop your weapons! Now!" Henderson commanded, his team quickly disarming
the Vance guards.
Richard Vance's face turned pale. "You can't do this! Do you know who I am?!"
"I know exactly who you are, Mr. Vance," Captain Henderson said, looking at the
freezing woman and baby on the floor. "You're a monster. And you're under military
and civil arrest."

Logan picked up Elena and his son, carrying them out to the waiting military
ambulance. "I've got you, my love," he whispered. "We're going home."
