Chapter 9 - The Trial of the Vances

The rescue was only the beginning of the storm that would destroy the Vance
dynasty. A military medic had taken a raw, heart-wrenching photograph of the
scene right before Logan carried Elena away—a sobbing soldier in uniform
holding his freezing, half-naked wife and newborn baby, while her wealthy parents
stood inside behind the glass window, holding wine glasses and watching.
The image went viral on Facebook overnight under the hashtag #JusticeForElena.
Millions of people across America shared it, demanding justice.
Six months later, the courtroom in Denver was packed. Elena stood on the witness
stand, fully recovered, holding Logan's hand as she faced her parents.
"Mr. Vance, did you lock your daughter in her room for months?" the prosecutor
asked.
"It was for her own safety! She was mentally unstable!" Richard Vance lied, his
voice confident.
"That is a lie!" Elena declared, her voice clear and strong. "You locked me away
because I refused to abort Logan's baby. You tried to steal my son and sell him. And
when I escaped, you watched us freeze to death outside your window because you
cared more about your reputation than our lives."
"She's lying! She has no proof!" Victoria Vance screamed from the defense table.
The prosecutor smiled coldly. "Actually, we have the security footage from your
own patio cameras, which you attempted to delete. It clearly shows you watching your
daughter collapse while you drank wine."
The courtroom gasped. The jury took less than an hour to return.
"We find the defendants, Richard and Victoria Vance, guilty of kidnapping,
conspiracy, and attempted murder in the first degree," the jury foreperson announced.

The judge banged his gavel. "I sentence you both to the maximum penalty of life in
prison without the possibility of parole. May God have mercy on your cold souls."
