Chapter 6 - A Legal Massacre

While Grant and Vanessa planned their triumphant debut, Evelyn Cross was conducting a masterclass in total financial warfare.

On Thursday morning, I sat at the grand conference table inside Whitaker Global’s downtown tower. Beside me sat Evelyn, Noah, and a team of four forensic accountants who had spent the last forty-eight hours dissecting every transaction Grant had made over the last three years.

“It’s worse than we thought,” Evelyn said, sliding a massive binder across the mahogany table toward me. “Grant didn’t just funnel client retainers into his personal account. He took out two private bridge loans against your family home without your knowledge, using a forged power of attorney.”

My stomach churned with disgust. “He put my father’s house up as collateral?”

“He did,” Evelyn confirmed. “He used the funds to lease the Maserati, purchase luxury jewelry for Vanessa Vance, and pay the upfront deposit on the Four Seasons penthouse suite.”

Noah’s face remained impassive, but his knuckles were white where his hands rested on the table. “Where did the loan originate?”

“A high-interest private lender connected to the Vance family’s offshore shell company,” Evelyn replied. “Vanessa’s father set Grant up from the very beginning. If Grant failed to deliver the Elliott Bay project, the Vance family would foreclose on Emma’s ancestral home and seize the design archive automatically.”

“They didn’t just want the blueprints,” I said, the full extent of their cruelty hitting me. “They wanted to leave me completely destitute on the street with my child.”

Noah turned to Evelyn, his voice deadly calm. “Execute the countermeasures.”

Evelyn smiled—a cold, predatory smile. “With pleasure, Mr. Whitaker.”

“What countermeasures?” I asked.

“Yesterday afternoon,” Noah explained, looking directly into my eyes, “Whitaker Global acquired the entire debt portfolio of that private lending firm for twelve million dollars cash. Emma, you no longer owe a single penny on your family home. In fact, Whitaker Global now holds the primary lien on every single asset Grant Lawson owns—including his personal vehicle, his corporate shares, and his remaining bank funds.”

I stared at Noah, breathless. “You bought his debt?”

“I own him,” Noah said simply. “And tomorrow night, at the Maritime Gala, we will collect.”

Evelyn closed her binder. “Furthermore, the Seattle District Attorney’s office has officially opened a criminal fraud investigation against Grant Lawson for signature forgery and corporate identity theft. The arrest warrants have already been drafted. The police are simply waiting for our signal to serve them.”

“Not yet,” I said, looking up, a newfound strength surging through my veins. “Don’t arrest him at his hotel.”

Noah tilted his head, a glimmer of admiration in his dark eyes. “You want him on the stage.”

May you like

“I want him under the lights,” I said, my voice ringing with absolute certainty. “I want Vanessa Vance, her father, and every investor in this city to see Grant Lawson for exactly what he is.”

Noah leaned forward, his lips curving into a slow, lethal smile. “Then we give them a show they will never forget.”
