Chapter 5 - The Legal Counterattack

"They are fighting back harder than we expected, Eleanor," my civil rights attorney, Clara Montgomery, said as she walked into my temporary office the next morning. "Your father's legal team just issued a formal press release. They are claiming the viral video is a highly sophisticated digital fabrication engineered by his corporate rivals to destroy his real estate empire."

"They are still denying it?" I asked, laughing in sheer disbelief. "Even after the entire world saw their faces?"

"It gets worse," Clara said, dropping a thick stack of legal documents onto the table. "They just filed an emergency petition in San Francisco probate court. They are claiming that you have allied with cyber-criminals to extort forty-five million dollars from them, and they are demanding that the judge immediately declare you mentally incompetent to protect the Sterling Trust."

I stared at the paperwork, my eyes narrowing. "They still think they can win this game. They still think their money makes them untouchable."

"Then let's show them what real law looks like," Detective Vance said, stepping into the room with a certified leather briefcase. "I have the original, encrypted video file directly from the Nevada Department of Transportation servers. It carries an official state digital signature that can never be disputed or falsified in a court of law. It's time to step out of the shadows, Eleanor."

The next morning, the grand hallway of the San Francisco District Court was packed with reporters and flashing cameras. When the heavy double doors of the courtroom swung open and I walked inside, holding Eli's hand, the entire room fell into a breathless silence. My mother gasped loudly, clutching her expensive pearl necklace, while my father gripped the edge of the defense table so hard his knuckles turned white.

"Your Honor!" my parents' lead corporate defense attorney shouted, slamming his hand down. "This is an absolute media circus! My clients are the victims of a highly coordinated digital smear campaign! We demand an immediate dismissal of these fraudulent proceedings!"

Clara Montgomery stood up calmly, her voice echoing with absolute authority through the large room. "Your Honor, we are here today to present original, unedited state evidence regarding the attempted murder via exposure of my client, Eleanor Vance, and her young son, Eli. We are also filing an immediate injunction to permanently strip Richard and Victoria Vance of any and all access to the Arthur Sterling Trust due to extreme physical hostility and criminal misconduct."

Judge Evelyn Ramirez, a veteran jurist known for her complete intolerance of high-society games, slammed her gavel down with a sound like a gunshot. "Silence in my courtroom! Detective Vance, please step forward and present the state-certified evidence immediately. Let's see what the truth actually looks like."
