Chapter 19 - The Final Trap

The executive boardroom was completely dark except for the amber glow of a single desk lamp illuminating the center of the mahogany table. I sat alone in my chair, my hands folded neatly in front of me, waiting.
The heavy oak door clicked open softly. Footsteps echoed across the polished marble floor. A figure stepped out of the shadows, silhouette framed by the city lights pouring through the massive windows.
'Working late, Claire?' a smooth, familiar voice asked.
I didn't turn on the overhead lights. I simply looked up, watching as Raymond Shaw walked toward the table, pulling out a chair and sitting down directly opposite me. But he wasn't carrying a briefcase or financial spreadsheets. In his right hand, he held a sleek, silenced pistol identical to the one used in the detention center.
I didn't flinch. I didn't scream. I simply stared at him with cold, absolute clarity.
'It was you, Raymond,' I said quietly, the words hanging heavily in the silent room. 'Not Henderson, not Ethan, not Marcus. You were the architect of Bellum Veritas all along.'
Raymond let out a soft, melancholic sigh, shaking his head slightly as he rested the pistol casually on the mahogany wood. 'Your father was a brilliant man, Claire. But he was sentimental. He believed shipping was about maritime tradition and family legacy. Some of us realized years ago that the real power in the modern world belongs to those who control global intelligence infrastructure.'
'You used Ethan’s ambition to destabilize the company,' I said, my voice cutting like glass. 'You leaked the financial documents to make him look like the mastermind while you siphoned our naval contracts out the back door.'
'Ethan was a useful, arrogant idiot,' Raymond admitted smoothly, a cold smile touching his lips. 'Just like Marcus. They played their parts perfectly. And now, unfortunately, you’ve played yours.'
Raymond raised the pistol, leveling the barrel straight at my chest. 'I truly wish it hadn't come to this, Claire. I watched you grow up. But you simply wouldn't let go.'
I didn't move. Instead, I smiled faintly. 'Raymond... did you really think I invited you here tonight without backup?'
Raymond’s expression flickered with sudden hesitation. Before he could pull the trigger, the massive projection screen behind him suddenly lit up with live video feeds from federal security cameras and the boardroom’s hidden speakers.
'Federal agents, drop your weapon!' Silas Vance’s amplified voice echoed through the room as heavily armed tactical units flooded the executive suite from every doorway, surrounding Raymond with drawn weapons.

Raymond froze. He looked at the surrounding tactical officers, then back at me, realizing he had walked straight into the ultimate trap.
The gun slipped from his fingers, clattering loudly against the mahogany table.
