Chapter 20 - Crown of Thorns

The annual shareholder meeting of Harlow Industries was the most anticipated financial event of the year. The grand auditorium of Harlow Tower was packed to capacity, filled with hundreds of global investors, financial journalists, and board directors.
I walked onto the stage precisely at 10:00 AM, wearing a striking crimson blazer and black trousers. My stride was calm, measured, and utterly unyielding.
Sitting in the front row was a team of unfamiliar corporate attorneys representing *Vanguard Global*—Victor Harlow’s hidden proxy corporation—led by a sharp-faced senior litigator named Howard Vance, no relation to Arthur or Daniel, but cut from the exact same ruthless cloth.
When I stepped up to the podium, Howard Vance stood up immediately, holding a thick leather-bound document.
"Point of order, Madam CEO," Howard announced loudly, his voice echoing through the auditorium microphones. "Before the financial review begins, I am filing an emergency injunction on behalf of our primary stakeholder, claiming immediate co-ownership of Harlow Industries under the twenty-eight-year-old Victor Harlow Trust Deed, executed by your grandfather and legally inherited through marriage by Daniel Vance!"
Whispers erupted through the auditorium like a sudden gale. Flashbulbs blinded me from the press gallery.
I didn't flinch. I didn't blink. I simply reached down, pulled out the yellowed envelope Evelyn had given me, and placed it neatly on the podium.
Then, I looked directly at Howard Vance with a cold, devastating smile.
"You brought a forged trust deed to a legal execution, Howard," I said into the microphone, my voice ringing with absolute, flawless authority.
Howard’s confident smirk faltered. "Forged? Prove it! That document is certified by a notary public who—"
"Died twelve years ago," I interrupted smoothly, holding up the yellowed paper. "And furthermore, section fourteen of the primary Harlow incorporation charter—amended personally by my grandfather three days before he passed away, and filed with the Federal Trade Commission—explicitly states that any fraudulent claim brought by proxy trusts using deceased signatories results in the immediate forfeiture of all underlying corporate assets to the primary beneficiary."
I pressed a button on the podium. Behind me, the massive digital projection screen flashed to life, displaying the federal certification seal of the amended charter alongside a signed confession from Evelyn Vance detailing the entire thirty-year conspiracy.
"Furthermore," I added, my voice dropping to a terrifying whisper that silenced the entire auditorium, "as of 9:00 AM this morning, federal marshals have raided *Vanguard Global*’s offshore accounts in Zurich, freezing every single asset associated with Victor Harlow’s syndicate. The warrants were signed by my father and executed by the SEC."
Howard Vance stared at the screen, his face turning completely gray. His knees buckled, and he dropped back into his seat, surrounded by gasps and flashing cameras.
I looked out across the sea of astonished faces—directors, investors, journalists, and enemies alike.
The war was finally over.

I adjusted the microphone, my head held high, and spoke into the future.
"Welcome to the new era of Harlow Industries."
