Chapter 20 - The Endless Ocean

I stared at the screen, my grip tightening around the phone until my knuckles turned white. The realization hit me with absolute, freezing clarity: Victor Hale was never the master of the empire; he was merely a pawn who got too ambitious and had to be discarded.

"I don't negotiate with shadow syndicates," I said, my voice steady and cold, cutting through the silence of the Maine coastal house.

The man at the head of the boardroom table chuckled softly—a low, echoing sound that carried centuries of quiet arrogance.

"Negotiation is for equals, Ethan. You are standing at the edge of a global abyss with a manuscript of secrets that cannot save you," the man replied smoothly. "You have forty-eight hours to deliver the master cryptographic keys encoded in your grandfather’s manuscript to our vessel in international waters. Otherwise, Protocol Leviathan executes, and the modern financial world ceases to exist."

The video feed abruptly terminated, plunging the screen into darkness.

I looked up from the phone. My mother was watching me, her expression calm, devoid of fear. She had lived through fifteen years of darkness and emerged on the other side.

"What are you going to do, Ethan?" she asked quietly.

I walked over to the window, looking out past the crashing waves of the Atlantic toward the endless horizon where the stormy sky met the dark sea.

Victor Hale was in a prison cell. Harrison Vance was at the bottom of the ocean. But the true war—the war for the digital soul of the world—was only just beginning.

I pulled the micro-SD card from my pocket, slipped it into my secure satellite transmitter, and began typing a reply.

Not a surrender. Not a plea for mercy.

An opening salvo.

"Let them come," I whispered to the empty room, a dangerous smile touching my lips. "I built the locks for their empire. Now, I'm going to sink their entire fleet."

The screen flickered, uploading a counter-virus straight into their maritime network before they even realized the trap was sprung.

The ocean fantasy novel had ended. The legend of the new world was just waking up.
