CHAPTER 12: THE CLEANSING WAVE

The impact of the First Salt Crystal striking the pulsing Blight Core was not a sound, but a blinding, silent explosion of pure energy.

For a fraction of a second, the dark, suffocating interior of the White Sea Elephant's cranial vault was illuminated with the stark brilliance of a newborn sun. The blue-white light of the ancient crystal didn't just shine; it burned, cutting through the thick, oily black bile like a hot blade through grease.

SCREEEEEEECH!

A silent, high-frequency shockwave rippled through the water, vibrating so violently that it shattered the remaining dark coral growths inside the chamber. The colossal, weeping white eye of the Blight Core cracked. Intricate, web-like fractures of brilliant white light spread across its milky surface. From the cracks, instead of black ichor, a torrent of pure, unpolluted seawater began to erupt, washing away the necrotic tissue.

The parasitic tendrils wrapped around Rin's arms and legs did not merely release her; they disintegrated, turning into pale ash that was instantly swept away by the rising tide of clean energy.

Rin felt herself floating backward, her body weightless in the surging current. She watched as the glowing green veins on her own hands and arms pulsed in perfect harmony with the white fractures breaking across the core. The symbiosis with the Guardian was acting as a lightning rod, channeling the ancient, purifying energy of the salt crystal throughout the entire nervous system of the giant titan.

Thump... Thump... Thump...

The Leviathan's massive heartbeat, which had been a chaotic, agonizing hammer, suddenly missed a beat. Then, it struck again—not with a hollow, metallic clank, but with a deep, resonant, and healthy thrum that sent a wave of warmth through the water.

Deep within her mind, Rin felt the titan's consciousness react.

The ball of pure agony she had found in the dark corners of its thoughts was slowly uncurling. The gentle, ancient giant was waking up from a decades-long nightmare. The burning, screaming itch under its skull was fading, replaced by a cool, soothing silence that felt like the quietest depths of the open sea.

"Thank... you... Echo..." a voice, vast as the ocean floor and incredibly peaceful, whispered in her mind.

But the cleansing was not without a cost.

The sheer volume of energy released by the crystal’s purification process created a massive pressure differential inside the cranial vault. The water began to churn violently, forming a powerful, upward vortex that began to drag Rin toward the exit.

The White Sea Elephant, fully conscious now and freed from the madness of the Blight, threw its massive head back. It opened its cavernous maw to its fullest extent, releasing a triumphant, healthy call that echoed for fifty miles across the abyssal plains.

With the opening of its mouth, a massive column of purified water—carrying Rin along with it—was ejected out of the titan's body, shooting her back into the vast, open ocean.

Rin spun through the dark, her amber eyes wide as she stabilized her body in the water. Her basalt-scaled hands cut through the current, bringing her to a halt.

She looked back.

The White Sea Elephant was no longer the terrifying, rotting monster that had attacked the Rust Ship. Its armored, ivory-like bone plates were now clean, free of the weeping black pustules. The deep, jagged fissures on its snout had closed, and its skin pulsed with a faint, healthy bioluminescent blue light. Its massive eyes, once blind and white, were now clear, reflecting the gentle, ancient intelligence of a true protector of the deep.

The titan looked at Rin, its massive flukes gently sweeping the water, creating a slow, respectful current that bowed toward her.

May you like

[The first step is complete, Echo,] the Guardian’s voice returned to her mind, now perfectly clear and strong, free of any static. [But the disturbance has been felt. The surface dwellers and the remaining shadows are converging on the sector. We must move quickly.]

Rin nodded. She felt a sudden, sharp exhaustion wash over her, her glowing green runes dimming to a soft, steady hum. She had saved the titan, but the battle for the deep had only just begun.
