CHAPTER 28: THE MESSENGERS OF THE BLACK SAILS

Part 1: Dust on the Eastern Horizon
The dawn following the sealing of Kaelen and Yara’s moon-thread bond arrived not with the gentle songs of canyon birds, but with an ominous tremor vibrating through the red sandstone floor.
At the eastern gates of the Grand Canyon, where the massive red stone pillars narrowed into a throat of sheer rock, the watch-sentinels blew their hollow ram-horns. The sound was flat and urgent.
"Caravan approaching!" a scout yelled from the high ledges. "But they do not bear the banners of Castile, nor the markings of the northern tribes. They carry... black cloth."
Kaelen, flanked by Yara and Grandmaster Geronimo, walked swiftly to the canyon’s eastern overlook. Below them, emerging from the swirling red dust of the desert salt flats, was a strange, exotic entourage. Unlike the heavily armored, rigid columns of the Castile Vanguard, these travelers moved with a wild, rhythmic cadence.
They rode dark, long-legged desert dromedaries and carried tall, black silk banners that snapped aggressively in the wind. The banners were decorated with a silver insignia of a crowned serpent swallowing a crescent moon—the dreaded mark of the Black Sail Fleet of the Caribbean.
"Pirates?" Yara’s hand instinctively dropped to her recurve bow, her eyes narrowing as she studied the newcomers. "The sea-rats of Tortuga have never crawled this far inland."
"These are no ordinary brigands, Yara," Geronimo said, his ancient eyes clouding with concern as he stroked his long silver beard. "These are the messengers of the Persian Sect—the eastern shadow of the Black Sails. They control the smuggler channels of the Caribbean, and they wield a strange, chaotic fire magic that even the Castile inquisitors fear."
Part 2: The Envoy of Tortuga
The caravan halted at the base of the sanctuary's stone steps. The skirmishers of the Sun Cult immediately formed a defensive wall of obsidian spears, but the leader of the Caribbean delegation stepped forward alone, completely unfazed.
He was a tall, lean man of mixed descent, his skin dark and weathered by salt and sun. He wore a patched, dark leather coat over a colorful silk sash, and a wide-brimmed tricorn hat adorned with the feather of a sea-eagle. At his hip hung a heavy, curved scimitar, and around his neck hung a series of glowing, jade-etched amulets that hummed with a low, magical frequency.
This was Malik, the emissary of the Black Sails.
"Greetings, Solar Lord," Malik said, bowing with an theatrical, sweeping gesture of his hat, though his sharp dark eyes remained locked on Kaelen’s gold-and-obsidian crown. "I am Malik, first mate of the Black Sail Fleet. I have crossed three deserts and two mountain ranges to bring you a message from the deep blue."
Kaelen stepped through the line of spears, his white robes catching the morning breeze. "The Sun Cult has no business with the pirates of Tortuga, Malik. Speak your purpose, or turn your beasts back to the coast."
Malik chuckled, a dry, raspy sound. "A sharp tongue for a young king. But you will want to hear what I have to say. The Castile Empire has launched its flying dreadnoughts, Kaelen. They didn't need the siphoned souls from your fortress rescue. Malakor used the blood of the silver mines to charge their runic cores. They are sailing north as we speak, their shadow already swallowing the coastal valleys."
Part 3: The Offer of the Saint Fire
The crowd of native disciples let out a collective gasp of horror, but Kaelen remained perfectly still, his expression carved of stone.
"If the fleet has launched, why are you here?" Kaelen demanded. "The Black Sails have always fought for silver, not for the freedom of this land."
"We fight for survival, boy," Malik’s theatrical demeanor vanished, replaced by a cold, deadly serious intensity. He reached into his leather coat, pulling out a small, triangular tablet of dark, unpolished iron. The tablet was carved with glowing, orange runes that flickered like live embers—the Saint Fire Command (Thánh Hỏa Lệnh).
"Malakor has made a deal with the Spanish Crown," Malik explained, holding the tablet aloft. "Once they crush the Sun Cult, the fleet will turn its runic cannons on Tortuga to wipe us out of the sea-lanes. The Grand Master of the Persian Sect has sent you these three Saint Fire Commands. They contain the ancient, unshielded geothermic codes of the imperial flying engines. With these, your electromagnetic shield won't just block their ships—it will overload their runic cores from the inside out."
"And what does the Persian Sect want in return?" Yara asked, her voice dripping with suspicion as she stepped beside Kaelen.
Malik looked at her, his lips curving into a cold, sharp grin.

"We want the Dragon's Fang, girl. Once the Castile fleet is ashes, you will hand the ancient blade to our Grand Master. If you refuse... well, the Empire's winter will seem pleasant compared to the black fire we will unleash upon your canyons."
Kaelen looked at the glowing iron tablet, then at the vast horizon where the faint, ominous hum of the approaching imperial fleet could already be felt in his bones. The jaws of the great conflict were finally closing in, and the price of survival had never been higher.
