Chapter 6 - The Fall of the King

The lobby of Vale Industries was dead silent. The security guards stood like iron statues, their hands resting near their belts, watching Adrian’s every move. The two board members who had once laughed at Adrian’s jokes during country club dinners now stared at the floor, completely refusing to meet his eyes.
Adrian stared at Claire, his chest heaving, his mouth opening and closing like a fish pulled from water.
“You... you can’t do this,” Adrian stammered, his voice losing its thunder, replaced by a pathetic, desperate squeak. “I have fifty-one percent—"
“You *had* fifty-one percent, Adrian,” Claire corrected smoothly, taking a small step closer. “Until six months ago, when you authorized a margin loan against twenty-five percent of your personal shares to fund your illegal off-shore investments in Grand Cayman.”
Adrian felt as if a physical fist had slammed into his stomach. The air rushed out of his lungs.
How did she know about the margin loan? That transaction had been executed through a private Swiss intermediary.
“You thought no one was watching,” Claire continued, her eyes searching his panicked face with cold precision. “You thought your quiet, timid wife was sitting at home organizing flower arrangements for charity galas. But while you were spending millions on penthouse suites and luxury yachts for your mistress, I was buying up the debt notes on your leveraged shares through a secondary holding company.”
She leaned in slightly, her voice dropping to an intimate whisper that only he could hear.
“When you defaulted on the secondary collateral requirements yesterday afternoon—which happened the exact moment I froze your joint credit access—your defaulted shares were automatically liquidated on the open market. And guess who bought them, Adrian?”
Adrian’s knees buckled slightly. He had to grab the edge of Ethan’s cardboard box to keep from falling.
She hadn't just bought twenty-nine percent of the company from external investors. She had bought *his* stock. She had engineered his financial default from the shadows, forcing his own collateralized shares into the market where her trust was waiting to swallow them whole.
“You’re insane,” Adrian breathed, sweat dripping down his temple. “You’re a monster.”
“No, Adrian,” Claire replied quietly, her voice devoid of hatred, which made her words ten times more terrifying. “I’m a mother protecting her son. For four years, I watched you treat people like disposable toys. I watched you emotionally abuse me, neglect Noah, and use this company as your personal piggy bank for your toxic desires. I gave you every opportunity to be a husband. To be a father. But you were too busy looking in the mirror.”
She turned to the chief of security standing behind her. “Mr. Vance, please escort Mr. Vale off the premises. If he returns to B Street without a legal appointment, have him arrested for criminal trespassing.”
“Claire! Wait!” Adrian shouted as two heavy-set security guards immediately seized his arms, pinning him in place. “Where is Noah? Let me see my son!”
Claire stopped at the elevator doors and turned back slowly.
“Noah is safe,” she said softly. “He is in Washington, D.C., enrolling in a school far away from your influence. He won't grow up watching a father who treats women like servants.”
“He’s my son!” Adrian screamed, struggling against the iron grip of the security guards. “You can’t keep him from me!”
“The family court in D.C. has already issued a temporary protective order based on the evidence of domestic financial abuse and lifestyle negligence,” Claire stated calmly as the elevator doors began to slide shut. “If you want to see Noah, Adrian, you’ll have to fight me in court. But I suggest you save your remaining cash for your criminal defense lawyers.”
The elevator chimed, and Claire vanished behind the sleek silver doors, ascending to the top floor of the empire that no longer belonged to him.
The security guards didn't waste another second. They roughly shoved Adrian out through the glass revolving doors, tossing his box of personal belongings onto the hard concrete sidewalk at his feet.
The heavy glass doors locked with a resounding mechanical click.
Adrian stumbled and fell to his knees on the cold pavement. Passersby in business suits stopped to gaze at the sight: the legendary, ruthless Adrian Vale, founder of Vale Industries, sitting in the gutter in a wrinkled suit, surrounded by framed awards, desktop pens, and loose corporate files scattering in the morning wind.
Cameras began to flash. Local news reporters who had been tipped off were already rushing across the street, microphones extended.
“Mr. Vale! Is it true you’ve been ousted by your wife?”
“Mr. Vale, can you comment on the Cayman account allegations?”
“Adrian! Over here! Are you facing federal prosecution?”
Adrian covered his face with his bruised hands, cowering from the flashing lights.
Just across the street, parked discreetly in the shade of an alleyway, sat a sleek black SUV with tinted windows. Inside the rear passenger seat, Savannah Reed lowered her sunglasses slightly, watching Adrian grovel on the sidewalk.

She pulled out her phone, snapped a quick photo of his ruined figure, and sent it directly to Claire with a simple caption:
*The trash has been taken out.*
