Chapter 30 - The Guardian of Queens

We buried Bruno on a quiet, sunlit hill overlooking the calm waters of the lake, right beneath the shade of a grand oak tree.
A magnificent polished black granite monument was erected over his resting place. On the front of the stone was a life-sized bronze sculpture of Bruno sitting tall and proud, looking out over the water.
Inscribed on the black granite in silver letters were the words:
**BRUNO**
**2015 – 2028**
**THE DOG WHO REFUSED TO LET THE TRUTH BE BURIED.**
**HE HEARD THE SILENT, PROTECTED THE INNOCENT, AND SAVED OUR SOULS.**
**FAITHFUL UNTIL THE VERY END.**
Every autumn on the anniversary of Elena’s rescue, hundreds of people from across New York—citizens, police officers, family members, and children—would make the journey up to the hill to lay white roses and purple sneakers at the foot of his monument.
Ten years later, Elena Vasquez graduated with top honors from Harvard Law School, becoming a fierce federal prosecutor dedicated to protecting children and fighting public corruption.
On the day she was sworn in as an Assistant United States Attorney, she stood before the press holding her father’s hand, wearing a small silver pendant around her neck shaped like a Rottweiler paw print.
"I stand here today," Elena announced proudly to the national media, "because a loyal hound refused to give up on a little girl in a white box. His courage taught me that no matter how deep the darkness seems, truth and loyalty will always prevail."
As for me, I lived out my remaining years in peace, managing our charitable foundation and watching our family grow in light and honor.
Every evening at sunset, I would walk up the sunlit hill to the grand oak tree.
I would sit on the stone bench beside Bruno’s monument, watching the gold and crimson light reflect off the calm lake water.
I would reach out my hand, resting it gently on the warm bronze forehead of his sculpture, feeling the deep, eternal bond that time and death could never sever.
I knew that when my time on this earth finally came to an end, and I crossed over into the great beyond, I wouldn't be walking into the dark alone.
Waiting for me at the edge of the light, with his head held high and his tail wagging proudly, would be my one-hundred-and-twenty-pound guardian of death and love.
My faithful soldier.
My savior.
Bruno—The Eternal King of Queens.
May you like
THE END.
