🎬 PART 2: “Moral Choice” - Full Story

The coffee shop was loud, filled with the clinking of ceramic mugs and the low hum of morning chatter. Ethan sat near the counter, his eyes fixed on the thick leather wallet lying on the floor. An elderly man in a tweed jacket had dropped it just seconds ago and was now pushing through the glass exit doors.

Ethan slid the wallet into his hoodie pocket, his heart racing. He unzipped it under the table, expecting to find a stack of hundred-dollar bills. Instead, his fingers brushed against something hard and metallic. He pulled it out. It was half of a broken silver moon charm.

Ethan’s breath hitched. He froze, staring at the engraving on the back: Anna. It was the exact matching half to the necklace his runaway mother had left him before she disappeared into the streets of New York years ago. The guilt hit him like a physical blow, making it hard to breathe.

He lunged out of his seat, knocking his chair back, and sprinted out the door. He caught the old man at the corner, grabbing his shoulder gently.

"Excuse me, sir," Ethan said, his voice thin and unsteady. He held out the charm. "Who gave you this?"

The old man turned, his face tight with confusion, but as his eyes fell on the silver moon, he gasped. He looked up, staring into Ethan's eyes, seeing a familiar gaze he thought he’d never see again.

"My daughter," the old man whispered, his eyes welling with tears. "She took it with her when she left. How did you..."

Ethan swallowed the lump in his throat, his hands trembling as he handed the wallet back completely intact. "I almost didn't give it back. I’m sorry... Grandpa."
