Chapter 10 - The New Legacy

One Year Later.
The Whitmore mansion, once a symbol of cold, ruthless power, had been completely transformed. The heavy, oppressive decor had been stripped away. Sunlight poured through the massive windows into rooms now filled with warmth, art, and life.
Clara stood on the terrace, holding a cup of coffee, looking out over the sprawling gardens. She was no longer the fragile girl in the stained ivory dress. She was a confident, commanding woman. In the past year, she had liquidated her father's corrupt assets, fired the corrupt board members, and turned the Whitmore Corporation into a massive philanthropic engine.
She had also ensured that Maria, the maid Victoria had terrorized, was given a full college scholarship for her child and a high-paying administrative job in the new foundation.
Charles was serving a life sentence in a maximum-security federal penitentiary. Victoria was in a psychiatric prison facility, her mind completely shattered by the reality of her new, powerless existence. They were ghosts of a dark past.
Strong arms wrapped around Clara’s waist from behind, pulling her back against a broad, solid chest. Elias rested his chin on the top of her head, the morning sun catching the silver ring on his left hand.
"You're up early, Mrs. Cain," Elias murmured, his deep voice vibrating against her back.
Clara leaned into his embrace, covering his large hands with her own. "Just thinking about how far we've come. The press is calling the foundation launch a massive success."
"They're calling you a visionary," Elias corrected, kissing her temple.
Since his recovery, Elias had formally stepped away from the violent underworld. He now ran a high-end, legitimate security firm, but his primary, self-appointed job was standing by Clara's side—no longer just her protector, but her husband, her equal, and her peace.
"I couldn't have done it without you," Clara said softly, turning in his arms to look up into his dark, loving eyes.
"You did the hard part," Elias smiled, brushing a stray lock of brown hair behind her ear. "I just told everyone to step away from you."
Clara laughed, a light, joyous sound that echoed across the terrace. She reached up, pulling his face down to hers for a slow, deep kiss.
There were no more secrets. No more fear. The girl who was once treated as a shameful mistake had burned down an empire of cruelty and built a kingdom of light in its ashes. And standing beside her, the feared giant who had given up everything to save her had finally found a reason to live in the light.

They had chosen each other in the darkest of rooms, and now, they owned the sunrise.
