Chapter 6 - The Decryption and the Boardroom Ambush

In Lucas's downtown office, the clock struck 3:00 AM. Outside, heavy rain lashed against the high-rise windows. Lucas sat hunched over three computer monitors, running specialized cryptographic software to crack the AES-256 encryption on Daniel Ross's drive.
Emma brought him a fresh cup of black coffee, sitting on the edge of the desk beside him.
"How long will it take?" she asked, her nerves stretched to their absolute breaking point.
"The encryption has a triple-layer hash," Lucas explained, his fingers flying across the mechanical keyboard. "Daniel used a timestamped alphanumeric key that Vance's security team gave him. But Vance made one fatal mistake."
Emma leaned closer. "What mistake?"
"My father is an arrogant narcissist," Lucas said with a cold smirk. "He uses the incorporation date of his first offshore holding company as the master salt for all his internal cryptographic seeds. He thinks nobody remembers the history of his early shell corporations."
Lucas entered a twelve-digit code and hit Enter.
A green progress bar flashed across the screens, followed by a crisp chime: ACCESS GRANTED. DIRECTORY UNLOCKED.
Dozens of folders populated the screen: audio recordings, signed PDF authorizations, internal bank transfers, and hidden camera footage.
Emma clicked on the folder labeled Project Falcon.
A video file opened. On the screen was Julian Vance, sitting in his penthouse suite, speaking directly to Victoria Carter.
"Once Richard is stripped of his chairmanship," Julian's recorded voice resonated with chilling precision, "I will trigger the debt default clause. Carter Enterprises will be forced into bankruptcy, and I will acquire all real estate assets for ten cents on the dollar. As for you, Victoria, you will take the blame for the accounting discrepancies and quietly relocate to Switzerland."
Victoria's voice trembled on the tape: "Julian... you promised we would run the company together!"
Julian laughed—a cruel, dismissive sound. "Did you really think I would share an empire with a woman who betrayed her husband of twenty-five years? You're a useful idiot, Victoria. Nothing more."
Emma felt a strange mixture of disgust and vindication. Her mother had sold her soul for a man who viewed her as disposable trash.
"Print everything," Emma said, her voice steady and resolute. "Make three physical binders, copy the drive to five separate cloud servers, and alert the United States Attorney."
At 8:30 AM, the Carter Enterprises skyscraper on Madison Avenue was swarming with news crews, corporate executives, and private security guards. The atmosphere was charged with the electric anticipation of a corporate execution.
Inside the 50th-floor executive boardroom, the twenty-member board of directors sat around the massive marble conference table. At the head of the table sat Julian Vance, impeccably dressed in a custom navy three-piece suit, exuding the smug confidence of a conqueror. Beside Julian sat Victoria Carter, visibly trembling, her makeup failing to conceal the hollow terror in her sunken eyes.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Julian began, standing up and smoothing his silk tie, "as we all know, Richard Carter has been hospitalized and is incapacitated. The recent revelations of financial mismanagement under his leadership have put this great institution in catastrophic peril. Under Section 14 of the corporate bylaws, I move to declare the chairman position vacant and nominate myself as interim Chief Executive Officer."
"Seconded," one of Julian's bought board members announced immediately.
"Let us call for a show of hands," Julian said, a triumphant smile spreading across his face.
Before a single hand could rise, the heavy double doors at the back of the boardroom burst open with a resounding crack.
"Hold that vote, Mr. Vance."
Every head turned.
Emma Carter walked into the boardroom. She was dressed in an elegant black suit, her head held high, radiating absolute authority. Flanking her on either side were Lucas Vance and two federal agents carrying heavy briefcases.

Julian’s smile vanished instantly. "Emma? This is a closed board meeting. You have no legal standing to be in this room. Security, escort my niece and her companions out immediately."
"Nobody is leaving this room," Special Agent Miller of the FBI announced, displaying his gold badge. "Everyone remain in your seats."
