Chapter 7 - The Unmasking and the Fall of Julian Vance

The boardroom was frozen in absolute shock. Victoria stared at her daughter with wide, terrified eyes, shrinking back into her leather chair.
"Emma, what is the meaning of this theater?" Julian scoffed, attempting to maintain his composure. "If you are grieving for your father's poor health, do it at home. We are conducting serious corporate governance."
"You aren't governing anything, Julian," Emma said, stepping up to the conference table and dropping a thick dossier in front of each board member. "You are executing a criminal conspiracy of corporate espionage, extortion, and securities fraud."
Julian let out a sharp, condescending chuckle. "Wild accusations from a child. You have zero evidence."
"Let's see what the audio logs say," Lucas Vance announced, connecting his laptop to the boardroom's central multimedia display.
The speakers instantly filled the room with Julian's voice: 'Carter Enterprises will be forced into bankruptcy, and I will acquire all real estate assets for ten cents on the dollar... You're a useful idiot, Victoria.'
The board members gasped. Several stood up in outrage, glaring at Julian.
"Turn that off!" Julian roared, slamming his palms onto the table. "That recording is an illegal deepfake! It's inadmissible!"
"It's fully verified by federal forensic analysts, Mr. Vance," Agent Miller stated calmly. "Along with the complete transaction trail of fourteen million dollars moved from Carter accounts into offshore shell entities controlled by your holding firm."
Victoria burst into hysterical sobs, covering her face. "Julian, you told me they couldn't trace it! You said you had everything covered!"
"Shut your mouth, Victoria!" Julian snarled, his aristocratic veneer completely shattering, exposing the violent predator underneath.
Emma stepped forward, looking directly into Julian's venomous eyes. "My father gave thirty years of his life to build this company with honor. You tried to destroy him using lies, bribes, and a coward's scheme. But you forgot one thing, Julian."
"What's that?" Julian hissed.
"You underestimated his daughter."
Agent Miller stepped behind Julian, pulling a pair of steel handcuffs from his belt. "Julian Vance, you are under arrest for federal wire fraud, conspiracy, and extortion. You have the right to remain silent."
The sight of Julian Vance being led out of the Carter Enterprises building in handcuffs sent shockwaves through the financial world. News cameras flashed relentlessly in the lobby as federal agents escorted the disgraced billionaire into an awaiting cruiser.
Upstairs in the boardroom, the stunned directors immediately voted unanimously to reject the hostile takeover, restore Richard Carter’s executive powers, and grant Emma Carter full interim management authority.
Victoria sat alone at the end of the long table, weeping into her trembling hands. The other board members avoided eye contact with her as they gathered their papers and filed out of the room.
Emma walked over to her mother, standing silently before her.
"Emma... please," Victoria sobbed, looking up with bloodshot, ruined eyes. "You don't understand what he threatened me with... he had old debts from my family... he told me he would ruin everything..."
"You chose to betray Dad," Emma said, her voice devoid of anger, filled only with a deep, sorrowful finality. "You chose to invite a stranger into his home. You chose to strike me when I caught you. You made your choices, Victoria."
"I am still your mother!" Victoria pleaded, reaching for Emma's sleeve.
Emma gently pulled her arm away. "A mother protects her family. You tore ours apart for money and attention. Arthur will handle your legal proceedings. You will surrender all stolen assets, sign the divorce decree, and leave New York."
"Emma—"

"Goodbye, Victoria."
Emma turned and walked out of the room, leaving Victoria sitting alone in the empty, cavernous boardroom, surrounded by nothing but the cold silence of her own ruin.
