Chapter 15 - The Basement Showdown

Down in the sub-basement, the flickering fluorescent lights hummed with an erratic electrical pulse. Graham Pike and Julian moved silently through the concrete corridors, their weapons drawn, boots clicking softly against the damp floor.
“Perimeter breach confirmed in sector seven,” Graham whispered into his tactical collar mic, his eyes scanning the shadows near the main electrical transformer.
Suddenly, a blinding flash of white light erupted down the hallway as Dmitri Rostov triggered a magnesium breach charge against the secondary security door. The explosion rattled the concrete foundations, sending dust and debris cascading through the air.
Through the billows of thick gray smoke, two tactical figures emerged, assault rifles raised.
Graham didn't hesitate. He dropped to one knee, firing three rapid suppressed rounds that struck the lead mercenary in the shoulder plate, sending him crashing backward into a stack of spare piping.
Dmitri Rostov snarled in Russian, diving behind a concrete pillar while returning heavy suppressing fire that chewed up the cinder-block wall inches above Julian’s head.

“You’re outmatched, Rostov!” Julian shouted over the deafening roar of gunfire, keeping his position locked behind a steel reinforcement column. “The building is surrounded by federal marshals!”
“The federal marshals are five minutes away, old man!” Dmitri shouted back in heavily accented English, tossing a flash-bang grenade into the corridor. “And my buyer wants the Calder bloodline wiped out tonight!”
