Chapter 19 - The Final Chess Move

I stepped fully into the suite, keeping my pistol raised and steady, while Graham and Julian secured the perimeter doors.

“You used Arthur Sterling to destroy my family from the inside out,” I said, my voice cutting through the quiet room like a razor blade. “You used Vanessa’s greed as a weapon, and you hired Dmitri Rostov to finish what your grandfather started in 1991.”

Victoria slowly turned her chair to face us, a chilling, triumphant smile playing across her lips. She set her wine glass down on the glass coffee table with a soft clink.

“My grandfather built Calder Senior Living with his own sweat and capital, Eleanor,” Victoria said, her voice turning sharp and venomous. “Robert stole it from him. Arthur was simply my employee, executing a multi-year foreclosure plan to return the company to its rightful bloodline.”

“And you thought you could just wipe out the Calder family tree and take over?” Julian demanded, stepping forward angrily.

“I didn't have to wipe you out,” Victoria laughed softly, standing up and pressing a small remote control button on the wall. “I just had to keep you distracted while the federal bankruptcy court approved an emergency receivership transfer of all company assets to my holding company—which happened exactly three minutes ago.”

The television mounted on the wall suddenly flared to life, flashing an emergency financial news flash: *Federal Judge Orders Immediate Receivership Transfer of Calder Senior Living Assets to Thorne Global Holdings.*
