Chapter 20 - The Unwritten Chapter

The private jet touched down softly on the tarmac of the Geneva international airfield, cutting its engines as the morning alpine sunlight reflected off the snow-capped peaks of the Swiss Alps. Daniel and I descended the metal steps hand-in-hand, breathing in the crisp, clean mountain air. There were no military escorts waiting on the runway, no flashing camera shutters of journalists hunting for a scandal, and no gray dossiers stamped with crimson security classifications. Just two people stepping into a quiet, peaceful world they had fought tooth and nail to protect.
As we walked toward the terminal entrance, a gentle breeze rustled the collar of my jacket, briefly exposing the jagged keloid scars curling across my neck and left shoulder. A passing traveler glanced at them with a momentary, curious stare before looking away. I didn't pull my collar up. I didn't flinch. I simply adjusted my sunglasses, smiled, and tightened my grip on Daniel’s hand. My father was serving his time in a federal penitentiary; the corrupt politicians who had sold out American soldiers were stripped of their power; and the Department of Defense was undergoing the most rigorous ethical cleansing in its modern history.
The war was over, but the story—the real story of my life, of our love, and of the unbreakable resilience of the human spirit—was only just beginning. The final page was unwritten, waiting for whatever adventures tomorrow would bring. And for the first time in my life, I couldn't wait to see what happened next.
