Chapter 7 - A Mother's Embrace

Three days later, the air in Emma's private recovery suite was warm and smelled of fresh jasmine. Vincent had
spared no expense, transforming the cold hospital room into a luxurious sanctuary. The plastic chairs had been
replaced with plush armchairs, and a large, comfortable sofa sat in the corner where Vincent spent every single
night, refusing to leave her side.
The door opened softly, and a pediatric nurse wheeled in a small plastic bassinet. Inside, wrapped in a soft white
blanket with a tiny blue beanie on his head, was baby Leo. He was no longer hooked up to the heavy oxygen tubes,
breathing comfortably on his own.
Emma sat up in bed, her face finally showing a touch of healthy color. Her eyes lit up with a pure, radiant joy
that Vincent hadn't seen in nearly a year.
"Is he ready?" Emma asked, her voice trembling with anticipation.
"He's doing beautifully, Ms. Walker," the nurse smiled, gently lifting the tiny bundle out of the bassinet. "His
lungs are clear, and he's feeding like a champ. He's ready to meet his mother."
The nurse carefully placed the baby into Emma's arms. Emma cradled him close to her chest, her eyes
overflowing with tears. "Oh, my sweet boy," she whispered, kissing his tiny, warm forehead. "My beautiful,
beautiful Leo."
Vincent stood at the foot of the bed, watching them. For a man who had faced down armed hitmen and corrupt
politicians without flinching, the sight of his small family together made his knees feel weak. He felt a profound
sense of awe, mixed with an intense, protective rage. He would burn the entire world to ash before he let anyone
threaten this peace.
"Would you like to hold him?" Emma asked softly, looking up at Vincent.
Vincent blinked, momentarily startled. He looked down at his own massive, scarred hands, then at the tiny,
fragile bundle in her arms. "I... I don't want to break him, Emma. I'm not made for gentle things."
"He's your son, Vincent," Emma said, her voice filled with a gentle, forgiving warmth that he didn't deserve.
"He's stronger than you think. Come here."
Vincent walked slowly to the edge of the bed. He sat down carefully, as if the mattress might collapse under his
weight. Emma guided his large arms, placing Leo gently into his embrace.
The baby was incredibly light. Vincent held him close, his breath catching in his throat as Leo let out a tiny, soft
sigh and snuggled deeper into his chest. A powerful, overwhelming warmth washed over Vincent's cold heart.
"He looks like you, Vin," Dominic's voice called out from the door.
Dominic stepped into the room, holding a file. He looked at the scene, a rare, genuine smile appearing on his
face. "Sorry to interrupt. But we have a situation. Brooke's father has managed to get a message out to some of his
old associates in the Detroit family. They're not happy about us freezing his shipping assets, and they're sending
some people to Chicago to... negotiate."
Vincent's expression instantly shifted. The gentle father vanished, replaced by the cold, calculating mafia boss.
He carefully handed Leo back to Emma, kissing her cheek.
"I have to take care of some business, Emma," Vincent said softly. "I'll be back before you sleep."
Emma looked at him, a trace of worry in her eyes. She knew what his world was like, and she had almost died
because of it. "Be careful, Vincent. Remember you have a son to come home to now."

"I won't forget," Vincent promised, his eyes dark with a promise of absolute ruin for anyone who dared to
threaten his family's new beginning.
