Chapter 14 - The Family Dinner

Three weeks later, the grand dining room of our newly acquired Beacon Hill estate—formerly Richard Hawthorne's mansion, now fully reclaimed and redecorated under my personal aesthetic—was filled with warmth, laughter, and the rich aroma of roasted rosemary chicken and garlic potatoes.
The long mahogany dining table was set with fine crystal and silver, but the atmosphere was refreshingly intimate and joyous.
Lily sat near the head of the table, laughing brightly at something Daniel whispered into her ear as he carefully passed her a bowl of roasted vegetables. Marcus Vance sat across from them, sharing a quiet conversation about international legal frameworks with our newly appointed chief compliance officer.
At the center of the table sat me, presiding over the dinner not as a ruthless corporate titan, but as a mother and grandmother who had weathered the fiercest storms and emerged victorious.
As the chatter paused for a moment, Daniel raised his glass of sparkling cider, looking directly at me with profound admiration and respect.
"To Elena," Daniel announced, his voice ringing with deep sincerity. "The brilliant architect who taught us all that true strength isn't measured by what family name you inherit at birth, but by how skillfully you mend the world when everything around you is falling apart."
Everyone at the table raised their glasses in unison.

"To Elena," they echoed warmly.
I smiled, raising my own crystal flute, feeling a deep, abiding peace settle into my soul. The past was mended, the future was secure, and our empire was built to last for generations.
