Chapter 15 - Whispers of Conspiracy

The following month, while the Mercer-Hawthorne corporation expanded its global logistics network into European markets, dark clouds began to gather quietly in the background of international finance.
In a dimly lit private dining room in Zurich, Switzerland, three shadowy figures sat around a polished walnut table, reviewing encrypted intelligence reports concerning Vanguard Holdings and my personal holdings.
"The Mercer woman is untouchable in Boston," spoke a harsh, gravelly voice belonging to Heinrich Voss, a senior partner in an elite European private equity cartel. "She dismantled Richard Hawthorne in twenty-four hours and trapped Viktor Vance in a federal securities sting within a single week."
"She is formidable, yes," replied a smooth, chillingly calm voice from across the table—a man known only in financial underworlds as The Architect. "But every fortress has a hidden structural flaw. And Elena Mercer has one vulnerable spot that she guards more fiercely than her billions."

Heinrich leaned forward, narrowing his eyes. "You mean her daughter, Lily?"
The Architect smiled, a cold, humorless expression that didn't reach his eyes. "Precisely. Lily is pregnant, heavily involved in corporate operations, and emotionally attached to her husband. If we apply pressure where she least expects it—starting with the supply chains in her daughter's philanthropic projects—we can force the great Elena Mercer to come crawling to Zurich on her knees."
