CHAPTER 29: THE STORM ON THE GALLEON DECK

Part 1: The Flying Predator

Before Kaelen could deploy the Saint Fire Command (Thánh Hỏa Lệnh) in the grand defense of the Grand Canyon, its volatile magic had to be tested. Malik, the pirate envoy, proposed a daring, localized target: a rogue Castile flying galleon, The Invincible, which was patrolling the low cloud lines of the northern valley to map the canyon's electromagnetic defenses.

Under the cover of a violent mountain thunderstorm, Kaelen, Yara, and Malik scaled the highest sandstone spire. The storm raged around them, lightning illuminating the sky as The Invincible drifted through the clouds.

The vessel was a terrifying hybrid of standard Spanish naval wood and heavy iron plates. Giant copper induction rings hummed along its keel, glowing with a cold, pale-blue runic energy that defied gravity.

"The runic wind-induction core is located directly below the main deck," Malik yelled over the howling gale, adjusting his tricorn hat. "If we can board her, we can plant the Saint Fire tablet directly onto the primary conductor."

"Yara, secure the escape line on the rocky ledge," Kaelen commanded. His Solar Core flared protectively, a golden aura pushing the freezing rain from his tunic. "Malik, you're with me. We leap as she passes the western spur."

As the massive flying galleon drifted mere yards from the sheer cliff face, Kaelen and Malik launched themselves into the stormy void, landing silently on the slick wooden planks of the main deck.

Part 2: Clashing Steel and Golden Fire

CRACK!

The alarm bells of the galleon instantly rang out as the Castile sentinels spotted the intruders. A dozen heavy, armored guards, carrying broadswords that crackled with frost-runic magic, rushed from the captain's quarters.

"Intruders on the deck! Protect the runic core!" a Castile officer screamed.

Kaelen stepped forward, his eyes flashing with a brilliant gold light. He did not draw a blade; his hands, enveloped in a swirling, superheated kinetic field, were weapons enough.

A massive knight lunged, swinging a heavy broadsword down in a crushing arc.

Utilizing the fluid, redirecting movements of his grandfather Geronimo’s "Thái Cực" style, Kaelen stepped inside the sweep. He caught the knight’s armored wrist, pivoting to channel the crushing momentum of the strike directly into the wooden deck planks.

CRACK.

With a quick, open-palm thrust to the knight's chest, Kaelen discharged a concentrated pulse of solar-kinetic energy. The heavy breastplate shattered, and the knight was thrown thirty feet across the deck, crashing into the ship's mast.

Meanwhile, Malik fought with wild, unpredictable pirate agility. His cutlass clashed against steel, his glowing jade amulets emitting protective pulses of dark, chaotic fire that disoriented the armored guards.

"Kaelen! The hatch is open! Go!" Malik roared, parrying a spear thrust.

Part 3: The Overload

Kaelen dove through the shattered wooden hatch, descending into the glowing, humming engine room.

At the center of the hold sat the runic wind-induction core—a massive, rotating sphere of dark, unmelting glacier ice wrapped in heavy copper rings. The siphoned geothermal energy from the local mines was being forced through the sphere, humming with a high-pitched, unstable screech.

Kaelen pulled the triangular, iron Saint Fire Command from his belt. The tablet began to vibrate violently, its orange-carved runes flaring to life as it neared the sub-zero temperature of the ice core.

"Your fire cannot burn our winter, boy!" a raspy voice sneered from the shadows.

Emerging from the steam was a Castile Inquisitor, his hands glowing with a deep, necrotic blue frost. He launched a barrage of sharp, frozen bone-shards directly at Kaelen's face.

Kaelen did not flinch. He focused the entire output of his Solar Core, creating a localized, blinding shield of pure solar heat. The bone-shards vaporized into steam before they could touch his skin.

He lunged forward, bypassing the Inquisitor, and slammed the Saint Fire tablet directly onto the copper induction ring.

The reaction was instantaneous and violent.

The orange geothermic runes of the tablet shot like liquid magma into the copper conductors, reversing the flow of the energy. The sub-zero glacier ice sphere cracked, turning a brilliant, unstable shade of violet-gold as the thermal shock overloaded the engine.

"Abandon ship!" the Inquisitor screamed, his frost magic completely failing as the engine room began to buckle.

Kaelen vaulted back up the ladder to the deck, grabbing Yara’s secured escape line just as the flying galleon began to tilt wildly. He, Yara, and Malik swung back to the safety of the canyon cliffside just as The Invincible erupted in a massive, blinding flash of orange and blue fire, its burning timbers plunging into the deep, misty valley below.

The Saint Fire Command had worked. The flying fleet of the Castile Empire was vulnerable.
