Chapter 8 - Cassandra’s House of Cards

While Tyler was discovering that his bank accounts, credit cards, and legal representation had all evaporated into thin air, his mistress Cassandra Vale was experiencing a very public awakening of her own in Virginia.
My father’s investigative team had discovered that Cassandra’s newly launched luxury event company, *Vogue Horizons*, was entirely funded by the corporate slush funds Tyler had illegally diverted from Hartwell Medical Logistics. Every single cent of her grand birthday weekend—from the silver crown on her head to the private yacht rental on the Chesapeake—had been billed directly to our corporate accounts.
By Sunday afternoon, Victoria Vance’s team had filed an emergency civil lien against Cassandra’s business assets, bank accounts, and newly leased commercial office space in Alexandria.
According to the live updates streaming into our secure legal portal, Cassandra’s upscale launch party had abruptly turned into a chaotic disaster. Bailiffs had arrived mid-morning with court orders, seizing the high-end sound equipment, designer furniture, and promotional inventory intended for her company’s grand opening.
Video footage captured by an anonymous bystander showed Cassandra screaming at the court officers outside her leased studio, her designer dress stained with spilled champagne as she brandished her phone, frantically trying to call Tyler.
Of course, Tyler couldn't answer. His phone had been disconnected by the carrier due to payment failure on his frozen accounts.
“She’s turning on him,” Victoria noted, watching a downloaded clip of Cassandra hurling her phone onto the pavement in blind rage. “Our investigators interviewed one of Cassandra’s business partners this morning. The moment the liens hit, she handed over a complete paper trail proving Tyler explicitly promised to fund her entire business using Hartwell corporate funds under the guise of ‘consulting retainers.’”
“So he didn't just ruin his marriage and his career,” I observed quietly. “He built a bridge out of stolen money and invited his mistress to walk across it right over an open chasm.”
“A classic narcissist trap,” Dad agreed, pouring himself another cup of coffee. “They believe their own mythology until the moment reality crashes through the door.”
My phone buzzed on the table. It was an email notification from the Johns Hopkins billing and administrative office. A visitor had arrived at the front reception desk, demanding to see me.
Not Tyler. Someone far more dangerous.
Eleanor Vance—Tyler’s mother, a woman who had spent seven years treating me with thinly veiled condescension, viewing me as a fragile heiress who was merely keeping her son’s rightful throne warm.
“She’s downstairs in the visitor lobby,” I told my father and Victoria, standing up and buttoning my blazer. “She managed to track down our location through hospital registry leaks.”

“Do you want me to handle her?” Victoria asked, reaching for her briefcase.
“No,” I replied, a cold, hard glint in my eyes. “Let her come up. I want to see the exact moment she realizes her golden boy is completely finished.”
