Chapter 14 - Between Life and Death on the Operating Table

Three months later.

The private medical wing of the fully restored Mercer mansion was filled with soft, warm morning sunlight.

The heavy velvet drapes had been permanently replaced with sheer, elegant linen curtains that let the golden rays dance across the polished cherrywood floors.

Liam sat on the edge of the examination table, wearing a simple white linen shirt and dark trousers. His right leg was completely free of casts, braces, and external fixators.

I stood in front of him, reviewing the latest high-resolution CT scans on the medical monitor.

The three-dimensional imaging showed that the fractured femur had completely consolidated. Thick, healthy bone bridge had formed across the break, perfectly aligned and fully mineralized. The abdominal wall was fully healed, leaving only a thin, silver scar across his torso.

“Well, Mr. Mercer,” I said, looking over the top of my reading glasses with a professional smirk, “it appears your stubbornness has paid off. You are officially, medically cleared for all physical activities.”

Liam’s icy blue eyes sparkled with mischievous warmth. He reached out, grabbed my waist, and pulled me directly between his thighs, looking up at me with an expression of pure adoration.

“All physical activities, Nurse Clara?” he murmured, his hands sliding down to rest against the small of my back.

“All of them,” I laughed, wrapping my arms around his broad shoulders. “Though I suggest you avoid catching any more bullets.”

A soft knock sounded at the open door.

Tommy came running into the room, his cheeks flushed with healthy color, his dark hair growing back thick and shiny following his full remission from the Zurich CAR-T cell trial.

“Liam! Look!” Tommy cheered, holding up a brand-new remote-controlled helicopter. “Leo helped me fly it all the way to the fountain!”

Liam smiled, reaching out with one arm to lift Tommy easily onto his lap.

“Did you make sure not to crash it into the rose bushes this time?” Liam asked, ruffling Tommy’s hair with brotherly affection.

“Nope! Perfect landing!” Tommy grinned proudly. “Are we still going to the harbor today?”

“We certainly are,” Liam replied, looking back up at me, his eyes softening with deep, eternal love. “I have a very special surprise for your sister.”
