Chapter 10 - The New Audit

Six months later.
The city was different. It wasn't perfect—far from it—but the fear was gone. The old power structures had collapsed, and in their place, a new, more fragmented society was beginning to emerge.
Julian sat in a small cafe in the lower district, watching the people pass by. He was wearing a simple coat, his face largely unrecognizable. He had moved on.
He took a sip of his coffee, his eyes scanning the newspaper on the table. The headlines were about the economy, the new local government, and the ongoing investigation into the Vane collapse.
He smiled, a faint, sad smile. He had done what he set out to do. He had leveled the playing field.
Suddenly, a young man sat down across from him. He looked like Leo, but his eyes were different—warm, human.
"Enjoying the view?" the stranger asked, a familiar smirk on his face.
Julian froze. "Leo?"
"I go by many names," the stranger said, leaning back. "And I have many purposes. But you, Julian... you were the best student I ever had."
Julian stared at him, his heart pounding. "You're back."
"I never left," the stranger said, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a small, obsidian-colored device—exactly like the one Leo had used in the parking garage.
He slid it across the table to Julian.
"The next audit is about to begin," he said, his eyes glinting with a dangerous promise. "Are you ready?"
May you like
Julian looked at the device, then back at the stranger. The cycle, he realized, was never meant to be broken. It was only meant to be managed.
He reached out, his hand hovering over the device.
