Chapter 2 - The Echo of the Fall

The silence that followed the roar of the Ferrari’s engine was heavy, suffocating. Julian remained frozen, his knees refusing to obey the command that had just shattered his reality. The security guards, men who had spent years as silent sentinels for his father’s regime, were now looking at the ground, their faces tight with fear and unspoken relief. The shift in power hadn't just occurred; it had been violently re-established.
Leo watched him, his expression unchanged, as if the destruction of Julian’s worldview was just a minor administrative task. He revved the engine once more, the sound reverberating off the concrete walls like a warning shot.
"I don't have all day, Julian," Leo said, his voice cutting through the silence. "The world doesn't stop because your father's ego did. Either keep your word, or find out exactly how much the 'debt' I purchased includes your remaining assets."
Julian finally collapsed. It wasn't graceful. It was a clumsy, desperate fall onto the cold, unforgiving floor of the garage. He felt the rough concrete bite into his skin, a stark contrast to the pampered life he had lived only minutes ago. The humiliation was absolute, a burning sensation that radiated from his chest outward.
"Are you happy?" Julian hissed, his voice trembling with a mixture of rage and profound shame. "You've taken the car. You've humiliated me. Is this what you wanted? To be just another parasite in this city?"
Leo opened the car door and stepped out, standing over the fallen heir. He didn't look triumphant; he looked analytical. "I’m not a parasite, Julian. I’m the audit you never expected. Your father played a game of smoke and mirrors, believing that if he controlled the narrative, he controlled the truth. But truth, unlike your wealth, doesn't disappear when the market crashes."
He reached into his pocket and produced a small, leather-bound notebook—the true ledger of Vane Financial. "This isn't just about a car. It's about the families your father ruined, the employees he systematically bled dry, and the integrity he sold for a quarterly report. I’m just the one collecting."

As Leo walked toward the exit, his footsteps echoing in the cavernous space, Julian caught a glimpse of something on the floor—a small, silver keycard that had fallen from Leo’s backpack. It was stamped with a symbol Julian recognized: the seal of the city’s Shadow Council—a group that supposedly didn't exist.
"Wait," Julian called out, his voice cracking. But Leo was gone, leaving only the smell of burnt rubber and the lingering, chilling sensation that Julian’s life was no longer his own.
