Chapter 3 - The Shadow Council

The penthouse office was a monument to excess, but tonight, it felt like a tomb. Julian stared at the screens on his desk, his fingers trembling as he navigated through the encrypted files he had finally managed to access. The debt was real. His father hadn't just been losing money; he had been laundering it through a web of shell corporations that spanned the globe.
"It's all fake," Julian whispered to the empty room. "The empire, the money, the influence... it’s all built on a foundation of sand."
A soft chime signaled an incoming message. It was a secure line, one he hadn't used in years. He opened it, his heart pounding in his chest. It was a digital document, a transfer order. It wasn't coming from his father, but from an entity known only as 'The Auditor.'
'Your father's debt is only the beginning,' the message read. 'You have 48 hours to find the Ledger of Shadows, or everything you have left—the house, the company, the family name—will be liquidated by sunrise on Friday.'
Julian felt the blood drain from his face. The Ledger of Shadows. It was a myth, a legend told in the darker corners of the city’s financial districts. It was said to contain the secrets of every major player in the city—and the proof of their corruption.
He realized then that Leo wasn't just a random street kid. He was an agent of someone, or something, much bigger. He was being tested, pushed into a corner to see if he would fight or fold.

He reached for his phone, ready to call his father’s lawyer, but he stopped. The lawyer, he realized, was likely in on it. He was truly alone. He stood up, pacing the room, his mind racing. He had to find that ledger. If he could find it, he could control the narrative again. He could survive.
But as he turned, he saw a shadow move near the balcony door. He wasn't alone.
