Chapter 19 - The Family Covenant

One year later.
The summer sun shone warmly down on a picturesque white gazebo overlooking the shimmering waters of a private mountain lake on the Miller estate. Soft violin music drifted through the warm breeze, mingling with the joyful chatter of fifty close friends and family members.
White rose petals covered the grassy aisle leading to the altar.
Standing at the front of the altar was Captain Andrew Miller, looking striking and handsome in a tailored navy tuxedo, his eyes shining with deep emotion. Beside him stood Bear Kowalski as his best man, wearing a formal suit with a small white rose pinned to his lapel.
The violin music shifted into a breathtaking, slow acoustic melody.
The crowd stood up as eleven-year-old Emma walked down the aisle as the maid of honor, wearing a delicate pastel blue dress, carrying a basket of white flower petals. Her cheeks were rosy, her bright blue eyes sparkling with absolute happiness.
Behind her walked Dr. Aris Thorne, arm-in-arm with her proud father. Aris was a vision of breathtaking beauty in a simple, elegant lace wedding gown, her dark hair styled in soft waves adorned with small white flowers. She held a bouquet of orange marigolds and white roses—a loving tribute to Sarah and the journey that had brought them all together.
As Aris reached the altar, Andrew took her hand gently into his own. Their eyes locked in a silent, profound promise of lifelong devotion.
Officiating the ceremony was Detective Marcus Vance, who had recently retired from the police force to serve as the Executive Director of the Sarah Miller Trust.
"Friends and family," Marcus began warmly, smiling at the couple. "We are gathered here today in the presence of love and community to unite Andrew Miller and Aris Thorne in holy matrimony."
Marcus looked at Andrew and Aris, his tone growing heartfelt. "We all know the extraordinary path that brought these two souls together. It was a path forged through unimaginable trial, courage, and rescue. When Aris first met Andrew and Emma in an emergency room on a cold rainy night, she didn't just provide medical care—she provided a shelter of warmth, dignity, and love. And over the years, she has helped rebuild a family's heart."
Marcus turned to Andrew. "Andrew, do you take Aris to be your lawfully wedded wife, to love, honor, and protect her in sickness and in health, as long as you both shall live?"
"I do," Andrew said firmly, his voice filled with unwavering love.
"And Aris," Marcus turned to her. "Do you take Andrew to be your lawfully wedded husband, to love, honor, and stand beside him in joy and in trial, as long as you both shall live?"
"I do," Aris whispered happily, tears of joy sparkling in her eyes.
Marcus then looked down at Emma, who stood beside them holding two silver rings on a velvet cushion.
"Before we exchange rings," Marcus said gently, "this union is not just the joining of two people—it is the covenant of a family. Emma, do you give your blessing to this marriage?"
Emma looked up at Aris, then at Andrew, her face beaming with pure love. "I give my whole heart blessing," Emma said clearly. "Aris is my family."
Aris knelt down in her wedding dress, pulling Emma into a tight, warm embrace, kissing her cheek as tears of joy flowed freely.
Andrew slipped a brilliant diamond ring onto Aris's finger, and Aris placed a solid platinum band onto his hand.
"By the power vested in me," Marcus announced proudly, "I now pronounce you husband and wife! Andrew, you may kiss your bride!"
