Chapter 7 - The Master Key

With the digital evidence verified, the judge denied bail for both Daniel and Evelyn, ordering them to be held in
maximum-security custody until trial. But Clara knew that putting them in jail was only half the battle. To truly
secure her father’s legacy, she had to purge their influence from Apex Secure.
From her hospital bed, Clara initiated a full security audit of the company. She discovered that Marcus Vance,
utilizing his elevated IT credentials, had installed a backdoor trojan in the company's financial servers. Daniel’s
plan had been to siphon off millions of dollars of intellectual property and cash reserves into offshore shell
companies in the Cayman Islands, leaving Apex Secure a hollowed-out shell.
Clara’s fingers flew across her laptop. She was in her element now. The physical pain of her broken ribs and
bruised body faded into the background, replaced by the sharp, cold focus of a master coder.
She tracked the backdoor. It was a sophisticated piece of malware, but it carried Marcus's distinct, sloppy digital
signature. "You should have stayed in basic networking, Marcus," Clara muttered to herself.
Instead of immediately deleting the trojan, Clara did something far more devastating. She turned it into a
honeypot. She created a set of dummy bank accounts filled with simulated currency and intellectual property files.
She then allowed Marcus to initiate a massive transfer of these "assets" to Daniel’s offshore accounts.
As Marcus initiated the transfer, the honeypot software automatically triggered a reverse-trace. It bypassed the
offshore bank’s security protocols, accessing the master ledger of the shell companies.
Clara gasped as the data began to scroll down her screen. It wasn't just Daniel and Evelyn's money. The
accounts contained millions of dollars of dark money linked to a foreign corporate competitor called Vanguard
Tech.
Daniel had been planning to sell Apex Secure's proprietary military-grade encryption algorithms to Vanguard
Tech—an act that wasn't just corporate theft, but a violation of national security laws.
"They weren't just trying to steal my company," Clara realized, her voice trembling with anger. "They were
selling out the entire country's defense contracts."
She immediately compiled the data, routing it through an encrypted channel directly to the Federal Bureau of
Investigation’s cyber division.
Within three hours, FBI agents raided the corporate offices of Vanguard Tech and arrested Marcus Vance at his
desk. Clara had not just protected her company; she had elevated her battle to a federal level. Daniel and Evelyn

were no longer just facing state domestic violence charges—they were facing federal conspiracy and espionage
charges.
