Chapter 15 - The Counter-Strike Across Borders

Victor stared at the screen of his tablet in absolute, paralyzed horror. His hands shook violently as he scrolled through page after page of international banking records, asset seizures, and regulatory indictments.
“This... this is impossible,” Victor choked out, his smooth, arrogant voice cracking into a panicked whisper. “How... how did you freeze my Swiss accounts? Those are protected by strict Swiss banking secrecy laws!”
“Swiss banking secrecy laws protect legitimate corporate entities, Victor, not international money laundering syndicates operating under fraudulent offshore identities,” I replied smoothly, my voice as cool as mountain spring water. “While you were busy giving interviews in Geneva and trying to squeeze our European hotel properties, Arthur Vance and our international legal team were quietly working with European financial intelligence units to track the origin of Meridian Holdings' liquidity.”
Victor stood up so fast his executive chair slammed backward against the wood-paneled wall. “You... you investigated me? For how long?”
“From the exact moment Arthur brought me the dossier on your shell company,” I said calmly. “You thought you were springing a trap on me. In reality, you simply walked your entire financial empire straight into a federal detention zone.”
“You can’t do this!” Victor roared, slamming his palms onto his desk, leaning directly into his camera microphone. “I have political allies in the European Union! I have judges in Zurich who—!”
“Who are currently being questioned by Interpol for accepting institutional bribes from Meridian Holdings,” Margaret Sloan chimed in crisply, leaning into my camera frame with a cold, professional smile. “In fact, Victor, if you look at page fourteen of the document we just sent you, you’ll notice that Swiss federal police are currently executing search warrants at your primary Geneva residence as we speak.”
Victor’s breath hitched in his throat. He turned his head sharply toward the French doors of his private Geneva office, where muffled shouts and heavy footsteps could clearly be heard echoing down the hallway through his open office door.
The digital connection trembled slightly as armed Swiss federal officers in tactical gear marched directly into Victor’s private office, shouting commands in French and German, ordering him to step away from the terminal with his hands visible.
“Evelyn! Wait! We’re family!” Victor screamed in absolute panic as two officers grabbed his arms and forced them behind his back, clicking heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists.
“Family?” I repeated softly, looking directly into the camera lens as the officers hauled him away from the desk. “Thomas used to say that family is defined by loyalty, integrity, and honor. You were nothing more than a ghost trying to haunt a house you abandoned decades ago.”
With a gentle tap of my finger on the control panel, I terminated the encrypted video feed. The screen went dark, plunging my study back into a serene, peaceful silence.

Arthur Vance exhaled a long, shaky breath, wiping a bead of sweat from his forehead. “Well, Evelyn... I must admit, watching you dismantle a thirty-year international conspiracy from a wheelchair in your study is quite possibly the most terrifying and magnificent thing I’ve ever witnessed in my entire legal career.”
I turned my motorized chair around to face them, smiling warmly. “Never mistake physical stillness for weakness, Arthur. The most dangerous predator in the jungle is the one sitting quietly in the tall grass, waiting for the right moment to strike.”
