Chapter 18 - Foundations of Gold

Preparations for the grand wedding of Grant Vale and Dr. Maya Lin moved forward with quiet, elegant simplicity over the next three months. Rejecting the idea of a flashy, hundred-thousand-dollar high-society spectacle designed for news cameras, Grant and Maya chose to hold their ceremony at the historic palace terrace overlooking the Presidio and the Pacific Ocean.

On the morning of the wedding, the sky over San Francisco was a brilliant, cloudless blue.

Inside the private dressing room at the Presidio venue, Grant stood adjusting his black bow tie in front of a mirror. He wore a crisp, hand-tailored tuxedo—simple, timeless, and flawless.

Standing beside him, acting as his best man, was Eli Thorne.

Eli looked handsome in his matching tuxedo, adjusting Grant’s jacket shoulders with careful attention. "You look ready, Mr. Vale."

Grant looked at his reflection, then turned to look at the young man who had become like a younger brother to him. "Eli, I want to thank you for everything you’ve done over the past eighteen months. You kept this firm grounded when the storms came."

Eli shook his head with deep emotion. "You saved my life, Grant. You showed me what kind of man I wanted to become. Standing here today as your best man is the greatest honor of my life."

The two men shared a warm, powerful embrace before walking out toward the sunlit garden terrace.

The wedding ceremony was attended by two hundred close friends, family members, hospital staff, Bellwether employees, and community leaders. There were no fake socialites, no predatory developers, and no cameras from tabloid blogs.

When the music began, Dr. Maya Lin walked down the aisle lined with white roses, arm-in-arm with her father. She was breathtaking in a simple, graceful lace gown, her face glowing with radiant, unbridled happiness.

Grant watched her walk toward him, his heart overflowing with deep gratitude.

The vows were spoken under an archway of summer flowers with the Golden Gate Bridge gleaming in the background.

"I promise to honor you, respect you, and walk beside you through every storm and every sunshine," Grant vowed softly, holding Maya’s hands tightly. "Not because of what we own, but because of who we are together."

"I promise to love you, support your dreams, and keep our home full of warmth, laughter, and truth," Maya vowed back, tears of happiness glistening on her cheeks.

"I now pronounce you husband and wife!" the officiant declared joyfully.

Grant pulled Maya into a sweet, loving kiss as the gathered crowd erupted into joyful applause and cheers, throwing white rose petals into the clear blue sky.
