Chapter 7 - The Collapse of Lies

The courtroom fell into a dead, suffocating silence. The frantic banging of Judge Harris's gavel stopped mid-air. His face drained of color, his hand trembling as he looked at the federal prosecutor.

"This is an outrage!" Julian Vance shouted, slamming his hands on the defense table. "This is a blatant violation of due process! You cannot walk into a state court and threaten a sitting judge!"

"I'm not threatening him, Mr. Vance. I'm arresting him," Avery Vance said smoothly, snapping her fingers. Two FBI agents immediately walked up the steps to the judge’s bench, politely but firmly placing handcuffs on Judge Thomas Harris.

"Thomas Harris, you are under arrest for federal bribery, extortion, and conspiracy to obstruct justice," the agent announced, leading the pale, speechless judge away from his bench.

Raymond Vale stood up, his chair screeching against the floor. "Julian! Do something! This is a setup!"

Mara stepped forward, standing right at the prosecutor's podium. She looked directly at Raymond, her voice clear, amplified by the courtroom microphone. "The only setup, Raymond, was the one you fell into four years ago when you murdered our father."

Celeste let out a loud, hysterical shriek from the gallery, collapsing back into her seat.

Julian Vance tried to gather his files, his hands shaking violently. "You have no proof of these absurd accusations! This is a media stunt!"

"We have the forensic accounting files of Daniel Cross," Mara said, her voice filled with a powerful, righteous fury. "Uncle Adrian, if you please."

Adrian Cross stepped forward, connecting his secure military laptop to the courtroom’s large digital display screens. Instantly, the screens flashed with highly detailed financial flowcharts, bank routing numbers, and wire transfer receipts.

"What you are seeing on the screen right now," Avery Vance explained to the stunned courtroom, "is a direct, un-editable digital ledger. It shows a transfer of five hundred thousand dollars from Raymond Vale's offshore shell company, Aegis Development, to an account owned by Judge Thomas Harris just three days ago. The memo for the wire transfer? A encrypted code that translates directly to 'Case Dismissal Total'."

The gallery went wild. Reporters were openly broadcasting live from their phones.

"But that's not all," Mara continued, looking down at her mother. "Mom, look at the screen. Look at what your husband paid for your silence."

The screen shifted, showing a massive insurance payout transaction from four years ago. "Daniel Cross's life insurance was worth five million dollars. Raymond Vale intercepted that payout through a forged power of attorney, using Julian Vance’s law firm. He used that exact money to buy the estate we lived in—the very house where he tortured us. He paid for your luxury, Mom, with our dad’s blood money."

Celeste looked at the screen, her eyes wide with horror as the reality of her betrayal crashed down on her. She looked at Raymond, who was glaring at her with murderous intent. "Raymond... you told me... you told me Daniel died of a heart attack! You told me you were protecting us!"

"Shut up, you stupid cow!" Raymond roared, completely abandoning his sophisticated facade. He turned on Julian Vance, grabbing him by the collar. "You told me the files were wiped! You told me Daniel didn't leave any backups!"

"He didn't leave them on a hard drive, Raymond," Lily spoke up, her voice clear and filled with a quiet strength. "He left them to us. In our blood. In our memory. We are forensic accountants’ daughters. We know how to follow the money."

FBI agents swarmed the defense table, tackling Raymond Vale to the floor for the second time in two weeks. This time, there would be no bail, no high-priced fixers, and no corrupt judges to save him. As the handcuffs slapped onto his wrists, Raymond looked up at Mara, his face twisted in a mask of pure, unadulterated hatred.

But Mara just looked back at him with a cold, triumphant smile. The cage wasn't just broken; it was completely demolished.
