Chapter 10 - The Corporate Execution

The board meeting of Reynolds Real Estate was scheduled for 9:00 AM on a crisp Friday morning in the glass-walled penthouse boardroom downtown. Ordinarily, Linda Reynolds would have been sitting at the head of the table, sipping black coffee and ruling her real estate empire with an iron fist of intimidation and manipulation.

Instead, she was sitting in a fluorescent-lit holding cell sixty blocks away, wearing an orange jumpsuit and staring blankly at a concrete wall.

Sitting in her place at the head of the table was me.

I walked into the boardroom carrying a sleek leather portfolio, flanked by Richard Sterling and two corporate restructuring specialists. The five senior board members—including Uncle Marcus, who looked pale, sweaty, and half-crazed with anxiety—sat in stunned silence as I pulled out my chair and sat down.

“Daniel,” Marcus sputtered, standing up halfway from his seat. “You have no right to be here! This is a private corporate board meeting! You are not a voting shareholder of Reynolds Real Estate!”

“Actually, Uncle Marcus, you might want to check the updated shareholder registry,” I said calmly, opening my portfolio and sliding a thick stack of legal documents across the polished mahogany table.

Marcus stared down at the papers, his eyes bulging behind his gold-rimmed glasses. “What... what is this?”

“That is a controlling interest acquisition,” Richard Sterling explained smoothly, standing beside me. “Over the past seventy-two hours, Daniel Reynolds has quietly purchased fifty-one percent of Reynolds Real Estate’s distressed corporate debt and voting shares, buying them up at a fraction of their value from creditors who panicked after the federal fraud indictments dropped.”

The boardroom erupted into chaos. Two junior board members started shouting at once, demanding explanations, while Marcus slumped back into his chair as if he had been physically punched in the chest.

“You can’t do this!” Marcus shrieked, his voice cracking with panic. “This is a hostile takeover! This company belongs to our family!”

“Correction,” I said, leaning forward and resting my elbows on the table, my voice cutting through the noise like a razor blade. “This company *did* belong to our family. Now, it belongs to me. And the very first order of business under my new majority ownership...”

I paused, letting the heavy silence settle over the room.

“...is the immediate termination of Marcus Reynolds for corporate malfeasance, conspiracy, and federal witness tampering.”

Marcus leaped to his feet, slamming his fists onto the table. “You arrogant little bastard! I built this company alongside your grandfather! You can’t fire me!”

“Watch me,” I replied coldly. I nodded to the security guards stationed outside the glass doors. Two men in dark suits stepped into the boardroom, walking directly toward Marcus.

“Mr. Marcus Reynolds,” one of the security guards said, holding up a federal warrant alongside a corporate pink slip. “You are being served with an immediate suspension and escorted off the premises. Furthermore, federal marshals are waiting in the lobby to question you regarding your conspiracy charges.”

Marcus looked around the room, realizing with horrifying clarity that none of the board members were going to lift a finger to save him. He had backed the wrong horse, and now he was going down with the ship.

As the guards grabbed his arms and dragged him protesting out of the boardroom, Marcus screamed back over his shoulder:

“You’ll pay for this, Daniel! You’ll lose everything! You think you’ve won, but you don’t know what’s coming!”

The heavy glass doors clicked shut, cutting off his frantic screaming.

I sat back in my chair, looking around the remaining board members who were sitting frozen in absolute terror.

“Now that the board has been properly restructured,” I said smoothly, opening my portfolio to page one, “let’s begin our review of quarterly earnings.”
