Chapter 11 - The Live Broadcast Interruption

The grand auditorium of the State Capitol Center was packed to capacity. Bright television lights illuminated the massive stage, decorated with high state flags, golden banners, and a magnificent podium bearing the official Seal of the Governor. Over three thousand high-society guests, international diplomats, and news crews filled the seating rows, while millions more watched the live television broadcast across the nation.
At the side of the stage, dozens of armed State Capitol Security officers stood guard, led by Security Director Marcus Cole—a man loyal to Governor Sterling.
Governor Raymond Sterling stepped up to the mahogany podium to thunderous applause. He raised his hands, wearing a polished, charismatic smile that beamed across millions of television screens nationwide.
"Thank you, my fellow citizens," Sterling began, his voice echoing powerfully through the sound system. "Tonight, as we gather to celebrate our state's incredible economic prosperity, we are reminded that true strength comes from leadership that preserves order, protects business, and honors our history..."
Behind the stage, in the subterranean loading bay of the Capitol Center, a heavy horse transport truck silently pulled into an empty parking bay.
The rear doors swung open. Julian Vance, dressed in a sleek charcoal suit, stepped out alongside Detective Sarah Jenkins. Behind them came Clara, holding Obsidian's lead rope. The black stallion stepped quietly onto the concrete floor, his eyes alert and sharp in the dim lighting.
"All major network broadcast feeds are running through the main AV control room on the second floor," Sarah whispered, checking her tablet. "Sterling's private security team has locked down the control room doors, but I have a master override code from the State Police Internal Affairs division."
"Once we hijack the broadcast feed, Sterling's security will try to cut the main power," Julian warned. "We only have one shot at this. Clara, are you sure you're ready?"
Clara looked up at Julian, her face steady and fearless. She held her father's brass key in one hand and Obsidian's reins in the other. "My father waited seven years for this moment. I'm ready."
Back in the auditorium, Governor Sterling was mid-way through his speech. "...And so, as we look toward the future of our great state, we must reject the baseless rumors and conspiracy theories that seek to divide us—"
Suddenly, the massive 50-foot LED screens mounted behind the Governor’s podium flickered violently.
The bright golden state graphics vanished, replaced by a dark, high-definition audio visual file.
A loud, clear sound echoed through the auditorium's massive speaker system—a sound that instantly froze Governor Sterling in his tracks.
*“Listen to me, Victor. David Montgomery has turned over the full audit logs to my desk... Handle Montgomery tonight. Make it look like a tragic riding accident. I will ensure the state police report is buried.”*
The entire auditorium went dead silent. Guests gasped in sheer shock. News anchors live on air stared at their monitors in utter disbelief as the audio recording played across national television.
"What is the meaning of this?!" Sterling shrieked, turning around to face the giant screen in sheer panic. "Cut the power! Turn off the screens! Cut the broadcast right now!"
In the AV control room, Security Director Cole screamed at his technicians. "Cut the feed! Pull the main cables!"
Before the technician could touch the switch, Detective Sarah Jenkins kicked open the control room door, drawing her badge and sidearm. "State Police! Keep your hands off those controls! This broadcast is under federal evidence protection orders!"
On the main stage, Governor Sterling stood sweating under the blinding spotlights, his face pale with horror as digital scans of his signed offshore banking transfers and murder directives flashed on the giant screen behind him.
"This is a fake! This is a deepfake forgery created by political enemies!" Sterling shouted desperately into his microphone, his hands trembling violently. "Security! Clear this auditorium!"
Suddenly, the heavy double doors at the center entrance of the grand auditorium swung wide open.
A bright spotlight shifted away from the stage, illuminating the central aisle.
Standing in the doorway, framed by the bright light, was small Clara Montgomery, flanked by Prosecutor Julian Vance. And standing right beside the child, holding his head high with regal majesty, was Obsidian—the grand black stallion.
A collective scream of disbelief echoed through the three thousand guests.
"He's alive..." a senator whispered from the front row. "They're all alive!"
May you like
Clara took a step forward down the central aisle, her clear, crisp voice carrying across the silent auditorium and directly into the live broadcast microphones.
"You tried to bury us under the mountain, Governor Sterling," Clara said coldly. "But the truth doesn't die in the dark."
