Chapter 12 - Fall of the Governor

The sight of Clara, Julian, and the magnificent black stallion walking down the central aisle sent shockwaves through the Capitol auditorium. Camera crews scrambled over chairs, pointing their lenses directly at the young girl as she marched fearlessly toward the stage.

Governor Sterling backed away from the podium, his face contorted in a terrifying mix of rage and panic. "Security! Shoot that horse! Arrest those people immediately!"

Director Marcus Cole and six armed Capitol guards rushed down the stage steps, drawing their sidearms and pointing them at Julian and Clara.

"Don't move!" Cole yelled, his voice cracking with tension.

"Stand down, Director Cole!" Detective Sarah Jenkins shouted, stepping out onto the balcony above the stage with a battalion of heavily armed State Tactical Troopers behind her. "We have a federal arrest warrant issued fifteen minutes ago by the Federal District Court! Lower your weapons or you will be charged as co-conspirators in high treason!"

The Capitol guards hesitated, looking up at the tactical troopers holding laser-sighted rifles pointed down at them. One by one, the guards lowered their weapons and stepped back.

"Traitors! All of you are traitors!" Sterling screamed, grabbing a heavy glass water pitcher from the podium and throwing it wildly across the stage. He turned and sprinted toward the backstage emergency exit.

"He's running!" Julian shouted.

Obsidian let out a loud, thunderous whinny. Without waiting for a command, the black horse surged forward down the central carpeted aisle, leaping over the row of press tables with astonishing power.

The giant horse galloped across the stage, intercepting Governor Sterling just as he reached the wooden emergency doors. Obsidian reared up onto his hind legs, slamming his massive front hooves against the heavy doors, blocking the escape route completely and sending a deafening shockwave through the wooden structure.

Sterling stumbled backward, tripping over a monitor cable and falling flat on his back. He scrambled backward in terror as the giant black stallion landed heavily in front of him, looming over the corrupt governor with fierce, fiery eyes.

Julian walked calmly up onto the stage, pulling a set of heavy steel handcuffs from his jacket pocket. He knelt down beside the cowering governor.

"Raymond Sterling," Julian said, his voice broadcast live to millions of households across the nation. "You are under arrest for the murder of David Montgomery, conspiracy to commit murder, extortion, and high treason against the state."

Julian snapped the handcuffs tightly around Sterling’s wrists. The entire auditorium erupted into deafening cheers and applause. News reporters frantically reported the historic event live on air:

*“Breaking news! Governor Raymond Sterling has just been placed under arrest on the stage of the State Capitol! The evidence presented live by Prosecutor Julian Vance and young Clara Montgomery has completely unraveled a decade-long criminal empire!”*

Clara walked slowly onto the stage, stopping beside Obsidian. She looked down at the disgraced governor, who was sitting in handcuffs, weeping in humiliation under the harsh glare of the television lights.

"My father always told me that justice might take time," Clara said quietly to Sterling. "But when it comes, it runs like a wild horse. And no wall can stop it."

As federal agents swarmed the stage to escort Sterling away in chains, Detective Sarah Jenkins walked up to Julian and Clara, holding her phone.

"Julian," Sarah said, her expression serious. "We just got a report from the federal detention center where Victor Hale and Marcus Blackwood were being held."

Julian frowned. "What happened?"

"Marcus Blackwood's legal team just filed an emergency motion," Sarah revealed. "Blackwood managed to transfer fifty million dollars out of an offshore account twenty minutes ago. His private mercenaries are staging a breakout at the county transport depot right now!"
