Chapter 7 - The Harbor of Secrets

The sleek Blackwood corporate helicopter roared over the dark, turbulent waters of Boston Harbor. Below, rows of massive shipping containers stretched like giant steel coffins across the rain-slicked docks of Pier 42—a abandoned industrial shipyard owned by an obscure offshore holding company.
Inside the chopper, Ethan checked the magazine of his custom tactical handgun, racking the slide with a crisp *clack*. Beside him sat Marcus, along with six of their most trusted tactical operatives, all dressed in unmarked black gear.
Amelia and Lily had been secured at a safe house in an undisclosed underground bunker outside the city, guarded by twenty heavily armed private guards. Ethan had made sure his family was untouchable before embarking on this final strike.
"Two minutes to target, sir," the pilot announced over the comms. "Pier 42 is dark. No civilian traffic or port authority signals visible. They've jammed the local radar."
Ethan looked out the window at a massive, rust-covered cargo ship anchored at the edge of the deep-water dock. The vessel's side bore the faded name: *THE LEVIATHAN*.
"That's where he is," Ethan said softly. "The entire offshore banking server array for Julian's network is housed inside the hull of that ship. That's how he moves billions without leaving a digital footprint."
"Thermal imaging shows at least thirty armed hostiles patrolling the decks and the container yard," Marcus reported, pointing to a digital tablet displaying orange heat signatures. "It's a fortress, Ethan. If we jump down there, we're landing in an absolute kill zone."
"We don't land on the deck," Ethan replied, his eyes burning with resolve. "We drop on the stern crane, cut the power grid, and hit them in the dark."
Minutes later, the helicopter hovered low above the giant yellow cargo crane looming over the ship's rear deck. Rain beat mercilessly against Ethan's face as he attached his carabiner to the fast-rope cable.
"Go! Go! Go!" Marcus yelled.
Ethan slid down the rope, landing quietly on the metal catwalk thirty feet above the deck. Marcus and the squad followed instantly, their boots clicking softly against the steel grates.
Down below, guards carrying submachine guns paced between rows of shipping containers.
"Marcus, cut the main generator," Ethan whispered into his headset.
"On it, sir."
Marcus pulled a small detonator from his vest, pressing the trigger. A localized EMP charge attached to the ship's primary power node detonated with a low hum.
Instantly, every floodlight on the ship and surrounding pier went dark. Pitch blackness engulfed *The Leviathan*.
"Suppressors on," Ethan commanded, flipping down his thermal night-vision goggles. "Move!"
The squad moved like shadows across the deck. Silent, lethal, and precise. Within five minutes, eight perimeter guards were neutralized without firing a single loud shot. Ethan pushed through a heavy steel hatch leading down into the ship's lower belly.
The smell of warm electronics, salt water, and expensive cigar smoke filled the narrow metal corridors. Deep inside the lowest deck, Ethan found a massive converted cargo hold lit by hundreds of glowing green and blue server racks processing millions of encrypted transactions per second.
Sitting at a glass conference desk in the center of the server room was a tall, silver-haired man wearing an elegant dark wool coat. He was calmly sipping scotch from a crystal glass, watching a bank of monitors.
Standing around him were ten heavily armed mercenaries.
Ethan stepped into the doorway, his gun pointed straight at the silver-haired man's chest. "Step away from the desk, Julian."
The silver-haired man didn't flinch. He slowly took a sip of his scotch, set the crystal glass down on the glass desk, and turned around in his leather armchair.
When the light caught his face, Ethan’s breath hitched in his chest.
The face belonged to Arthur Blackwood—his father. But it was stripped of all warmth and humanity. Surgical scars spanned his hairline, and his cold gray eyes looked at Ethan not as a father looks at a son, but as a scientist looks at a specimen under a microscope.
"You made good time, Ethan," Arthur—Julian—said smoothly, his voice echoing in the vast steel chamber. "I expected you twenty minutes ago."
"Drop your weapons!" Marcus shouted, as his squad fanned out, guns locked on Julian's bodyguards.
Julian chuckled softly, waving a hand dismissively to his men. "Stand down, boys. My son has come to negotiate."
"I didn't come to negotiate," Ethan said, his hand steady on the trigger. "I came to put an end to this legacy of poison."
Julian stood up slowly, leaning against the desk. "Poison? Is that what you call it? Ethan, look around you! This ship processes five percent of the world's black-market shadow capital! Governments, cartels, corporations—they all pay me to keep their secrets safe! I didn't just build a fortune; I built the invisible foundation of the global economy!"
"You ruined our family!" Ethan yelled, his voice breaking with years of suppressed rage. "You made me mourn you for ten years! You allowed Victor to torture Amelia and cage Lily! For what?! Money?!"
"For order!" Julian spat, his cold demeanor finally cracking into terrifying intensity. "Your mother was weak! She wanted us to live a simple, pathetic life! Victor was a fool! But you... you had potential, Ethan. I tested you. I stripped away your comfort, your safety, your innocence... to see if you had the spine to lead!"
"You're sick," Ethan whispered in disgust. "You're a pathetic old man playing god in a dark basement."
Julian’s eyes narrowed into slits. "Perhaps. But a live god is better than a dead idealist."
Julian suddenly pressed a remote button hidden inside his coat pocket.
*KLANG!*
Heavy steel blast doors slammed shut across the entrances, trapping Ethan and Marcus inside the server room, isolating them from the rest of their squad!
Simultaneously, gas canisters dropped from the ceiling, releasing thick, sweet-smelling white fumes into the enclosed room!
"Knockout gas!" Marcus yelled, coughing violently as he pulled his mask down. "Ethan, get back!"
Ethan raised his gun and fired at Julian, but bulletproof glass instantly rose from the perimeter of the desk, deflecting the rounds!
Julian smiled wickedly behind the glass as Ethan’s vision began to blur and his knees grew weak.

"Sleep now, my son," Julian’s voice drifted through the speaker system as Ethan collapsed onto the cold steel deck. "When you wake up, you will sign over the Blackwood charter... or you will watch your wife and child die in front of your eyes."
