Chapter 6 - The Trap Springs

Marcus Vance advanced another step across the plush Persian rug, the black steel barrel of the suppressed pistol gleaming coldly under the recessed LED lighting of the executive suite. His smile was smooth, confident, entirely devoid of human empathy.

"You know, Clara, I actually admired your tenacity," Marcus said, tilting his head as he kept the gun trained dead on her chest. "Coming in here like a storm, destroying Arthur and Victoria in less than forty-eight hours. You had the killer instinct. Too bad you didn't check the background of the legal team your dear uncle hired for you three years ago when you first started working at the estate as an undercover asset."

Clara’s eyes flickered with a sudden flash of realization. "You planted me there. You were the one who orchestrated my employment at the estate all along."

"Bingo," Marcus chuckled softly. "Arthur was getting sloppy, too sentimental, too afraid of the fallout if the truth about the yacht explosion leaked. I needed someone with a legitimate bloodline claim to step in, clean house, legally invalidate Arthur's corrupt holdings, and consolidate the voting power into a single, easily manageable target. Once you legally claimed the estate and signed the restructuring papers... well, a tragic balcony slip was always part of the master plan."

Marcus raised the pistol higher, his finger pressing against the trigger curve. "Any last words before you join your parents in the afterlife, Madam CEO?"

Clara didn't flinch. Instead, a faint, ice-cold smile touched the corners of her lips. She slowly lifted her left hand off the desk and tapped the enter key on her keyboard twice.

*Beep.*

The sound echoed sharply through the quiet office. Marcus frowned, his eyes darting toward the computer screen. On the monitor, the terminal window had stopped displaying server logs and was now flashing a bright crimson banner reading: **SYSTEM LOCKDOWN: SEC-7 ACTIVE.**

"What did you do?" Marcus snapped, his confident facade cracking for a split second as he took another step forward.

"Did you really think a cybersecurity expert who spent ten years breaking into corporate networks wouldn't run a background check on her own legal counsel?" Clara asked, her voice dripping with absolute disdain. She stood up slowly from her leather chair, towering over the desk. "The moment you walked into this office and mentioned Blackwood Global, my automated security protocol uploaded every encrypted communication, every offshore wire transfer, and your complete confession to the FBI's public corruption task force, the SEC, and every major news network in the country."

Marcus’s face turned the color of ash. He lunged forward, raising the pistol to fire, but before his finger could squeeze the trigger, the heavy reinforced glass doors of the private elevator blew inward with an earth-shattering crash.

Flash-bang grenades detonated with blinding white light and deafening concussive roars. Before Marcus could even blink, three tactical operatives in heavy body armor descended on rappelling ropes from the ceiling, slamming him violently onto the marble floor and pinning his arms behind his back with surgical precision.

The pistol flew from his hand, clattering across the floor.

Julian stepped out of the elevator car, his face dark as a thundercloud, his tailored suit jacket slightly rumpled. He walked over, picked up the dropped pistol, and looked down at the writhing, handcuffed attorney with cold contempt.

"Nice try, Marcus," Julian said quietly, kicking the pistol away. "Unfortunately for you, family loyalty runs a lot deeper than corporate greed."

Marcus spat blood onto the pristine carpet, glaring up at Clara with pure venom. "You think this is over? Blackwood has contingency plans! You'll never be safe—"

"Shut him up and drag him out of my sight," Clara commanded, her voice cutting through the room like a guillotine. The guards hauled Marcus away, the heavy elevator doors closing shut behind them, sealing his fate forever.
