Mara Voss and I sat at a corner table overlooking the skyline, two glasses of sparkling mineral water resting between us as we toasted to quiet victories, new beginnings, and unbreakable resilience.
“To the best forensic auditor the state has ever seen,” Mara said, clinking her glass against mine with a bright, genuine smile.
“And to the federal agent who kicked down the right door at the exact right moment,” I replied, taking a sip as I smiled back.
Down below, the city continued its restless rhythm—a vast, complex web of ambition, secrets, power, and human struggle. Somewhere out there, new corrupt elites were undoubtedly plotting behind closed doors, believing their wealth and status made them untouchable by ordinary rules.
