I stood on the front steps of the manor, wearing a warm cashmere coat, watching the sunrise paint the sky in brilliant hues of gold and rose.
My phone buzzed in my pocket—a routine notification from corporate headquarters confirming the morning market opening. I didn't even look at it. I simply slid the phone back into my pocket, breathing in the clean, crisp air.
