Chapter 13 - Ashes of the Vance Empire

Two weeks had passed since Della accepted Royce’s proposal. The news of their upcoming wedding sent shockwaves through high society. The story of the pregnant waitress who saved the city's most powerful man five years ago had captured the hearts of the public, turning Della into a beloved figure overnight.
Meanwhile, the trial of the Vance family and Julian Calloway reached its dramatic conclusion in federal court.
Inside the packed courtroom, Cordelia Vance sat in handcuffs, wearing a plain gray prison uniform. Her former glamorous appearance was completely gone. Sitting beside her was her father, Harlan, and her mother, Evelyn, both looking defeated and aged by twenty years.
The judge slammed his gavel down sharply.
"In light of the overwhelming evidence of felony assault, corporate fraud, attempted murder, and illegal syndicate conspiracy," the judge announced solemnly, "this court sentences Cordelia Vance to twelve years in federal penitentiary without the possibility of early parole. Harlan Vance is sentenced to twenty years, and Evelyn Vance to eight years."
Cordelia burst into hysterical tears, screaming as federal marshals grabbed her arms to escort her away to prison! "No! Please! I'm a Vance! I don't belong in prison!"
As she was dragged down the aisle, her tear-filled eyes caught sight of Della sitting in the front row of the gallery.
Della was dressed in a stunning navy silk dress that elegantly highlighted her glowing pregnancy bump. Beside her sat Royce, holding her hand firmly, his presence commanding and untouchable.
Cordelia looked at Della—the woman she had once pushed into broken glass, calling her a worthless maid—and realized with bitter, crushing despair that Della had won everything: love, respect, safety, and an empire.
"You ruined me!" Cordelia shrieked hysterically at Della as the marshals dragged her through the heavy doors. "You ruined my life!"
Della didn't answer. She simply watched with quiet dignity as the people who had terrorized her were removed from society forever.
When they walked out of the courthouse, a wall of reporters flooded the steps, eager for a statement from the city's power couple.
Royce held Della close to his side, blocking out the aggressive push of the media.
"Mr. Calloway! Miss Marsh!" a reporter shouted. "What happens to the ruined Vance Logistics now?"
Royce stopped on the marble steps, looking calmly into the cameras. "As of eight o'clock this morning, the Calloway Foundation has officially purchased all liquidated assets of Vance Logistics. We are rebranding the entire company as the Marsh Global Relief Fund."
The reporters gasped in amazement!
"The entire multi-million dollar logistics network," Royce announced proudly, "will now be used exclusively to deliver free food, medical supplies, and shelter support to underprivileged single mothers across the state, managed directly by my future wife, Della Marsh."
Della looked up at Royce, her eyes shining with deep gratitude and admiration. He hadn't just destroyed her abusers—he had transformed their legacy of greed into a sanctuary of hope for women who were once just like her.
"Miss Marsh! How do you feel about this?" another reporter called out.
Della stepped forward, holding the microphone gently. "I used to think that having no money made me powerless," she said softly but clearly. "But I learned that true power comes from standing up for what is right and protecting the people you love. No woman should ever feel helpless because of where she comes from."
The reporters broke into spontaneous applause as Royce gently guided Della down the stairs into their waiting armored limousine.
Inside the quiet comfort of the luxury vehicle, Della rested her head on Royce’s broad shoulder.
"You really bought their entire company just for me?" she asked softly, wrapping her arms around his arm.
Royce kissed the top of her hair softly. "I bought it because you deserve to show this city what real strength looks like. And because I love you, Della."
May you like
Della smiled, closing her eyes in pure happiness. "I love you too, Royce."
However, even as the Vance empire burned to ashes, one final, desperate shadow lurked in the dark corners of the city—a rogue remnant of Victor Falcone's old guard who refused to let Royce Calloway enjoy his victory!
