Chapter 20 - A Crown for Della

Five years later.

The summer evening air was cool and crisp at the Calloway estate in North Hills. The manicured green lawns were decorated with fairy lights, flower arches, and white banquet tables for a quiet family celebration marking the fifth anniversary of Royce and Della’s wedding.

Laughter echoed across the garden as five-year-old Hope Calloway, dressed in a cute white sundress with flowers in her dark hair, chased a golden retriever puppy across the grass. Running right behind her was her younger brother, two-year-old Leo, giggling uncontrollably as Marcus trotted along behind them, playfully pretending to be a monster.

Standing on the wide stone terrace overlooking the lawn were Royce and Della.

Della looked radiant, her beauty deeper and richer with time. She wore an elegant burgundy dress, her hair flowing down her back in soft waves.

Royce stood behind her, his strong arms wrapped lovingly around her waist, resting his chin on her shoulder as they watched their children play in the fading sunlight.

"Look at them," Della whispered softly, a breathtaking smile on her lips. "Hope is running so fast."

"She gets her speed from you," Royce chuckled softly, his deep voice vibrating against her back. "And her stubbornness."

"Excuse me?" Della laughed, turning her head to glare at him playfully. "She gets her stubbornness entirely from her father!"

Royce smiled, pressing a sweet kiss against her cheek. "I stand corrected, my queen."

A quiet moment settled over them as they watched the twilight sky turn into a stunning canvas of purple, orange, and gold.

"Royce?" Della asked softly, leaning back against his chest.

"Yes, my love?"

"Do you ever think about the hotel lobby? The night Cordelia pushed me into the mirror?"

Royce’s arms tightened around her waist, his touch gentle and reassuring. "I think about it often. Not because of the anger, but because it was the moment fate finally gave you back to me. For five years, I searched for the girl with the crescent scar. I thought I had lost you forever. But fate brought you right into my hotel, right into my arms."

Della turned around in his embrace, taking his handsome face in her hands. She gently ran her thumb over the dark tattoo along his neck, a mark that once terrified the entire city, but now brought her complete safety and comfort.

"You saved me that day, Royce," Della said softly, her brown eyes shining with deep, everlasting love. "You gave me a home, a family, and a love I never thought I deserved."

"No, Della," Royce whispered, stepping closer and looking into her eyes with pure, unyielding devotion. "You saved me first. In that dark alley five years ago, you saved my life. And every day since then, your love has saved my soul."

Royce reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a delicate, exquisitely crafted platinum necklace set with a tiny, flawless crescent-shaped diamond.

He stepped behind her, gently moving her hair to clasp the necklace around her neck. The crescent diamond rested perfectly against her collarbone, catching the warm evening light.

Della looked down at the diamond, her heart overflowing with pure joy. It was a symbol of her scar—a mark that once represented pain and poverty, now transformed into a crown of strength, dignity, and everlasting love.

"It's beautiful, Royce..." Della whispered, turning back to kiss him deeply.

Royce pulled her close, kissing her with all the passion and tenderness in his heart, as the stars began to twinkle in the clear night sky above.

Across the lawn, little Hope and Leo came running up the terrace steps, giggling loudly.

"Daddy! Mommy! Look! A shooting star!" Hope squealed, pointing up at the sky.

Royce picked up little Leo in one arm, while Della took Hope's small hand. Together, the family stood on the terrace, watching a bright shooting star streak across the dark blue heavens.

There were no more enemies to fight, no more secrets to fear, and no more storms to weather. The shadow king had found his queen, the former waitress had claimed her crown, and together they lived in eternal, blissful happiness.
