Chapter 18 - Blood on the Velvet Floor

The announcement that the bride had gone into labor right at the altar sent a wave of sudden, excited commotion through the cathedral!
"Clear the aisle!" Marcus ordered instantly into his radio. "Prepare the primary medical SUV immediately!"
Royce didn't hesitate for a single second. Without caring about his expensive tuxedo or the thousands of watching guests, he gently lifted his beautiful bride into his arms, carrying her down the flower-strewn aisle at full speed!
The crowd of onlookers outside the cathedral cheered loudly as Royce carried Della out the front doors and placed her carefully onto the plush leather seats of the armored SUV!
"Drive!" Royce shouted to the chauffeur, pulling Della close against his side as the convoy sped toward St. Jude’s Private Hospital with police escorts clearing every intersection!
Della squeezed Royce’s hand tightly as a strong contraction rippled through her abdomen. "Ah! Royce... it's happening so fast!"
"Breathe, my love, breathe," Royce said softly, brushing her hair back, his own heart pounding with frantic, joyful anxiety. "We'll be at the hospital in five minutes. You're doing wonderful."
By the time they reached the private maternity wing of St. Jude's Hospital, the city's top obstetricians and nursing staff were waiting at the entrance with a wheelchair.
Della was quickly escorted into the grand delivery suite. The room was warm, serene, filled with soft music and warm lighting, overlooking the peaceful city skyline.
Royce never left her side for a single second. He changed into medical scrubs, held her hand, wiped sweat from her forehead, and whispered words of love and encouragement through every painful contraction.
"I'm right here, Della," Royce whispered, kissing her hand repeatedly. "I'm not going anywhere."
For six intense hours, Della fought through labor with extraordinary strength and grace. The timid waitress who had once begged for mercy in the hotel lobby was gone; in her place was a powerful, fierce mother bringing new life into the world.
At 8:42 PM, as the golden moonlight poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows, a sharp, healthy, ringing cry echoed clearly through the room!
"It's a girl!" the doctor announced joyfully, holding up a beautiful, healthy newborn baby! "A perfect, healthy baby girl!"
Tears burst from Della’s eyes as she collapsed back against the pillows, exhausted but filled with unimaginable joy.
The nurses quickly cleaned the baby, wrapped her in a soft pink blanket, and handed her directly into Della’s waiting arms.
Della cradled her daughter against her chest, weeping softly as she looked down at the tiny, perfect face, the small button nose, and the delicate tuft of dark hair that matched Royce’s.
Royce leaned over the bed, staring at the newborn child with absolute awe. The powerful mafia king, who had faced down armies of armed men without flinching, was completely reduced to tears. His eyes shone with raw, unadulterated devotion as he looked at his wife and newborn daughter.
"Look at her, Royce..." Della whispered tearfully, smiling radiantly. "She's perfect."
Royce reached out with a trembling finger, gently touching the baby’s tiny hand. The newborn instantly wrapped her small fingers around his thumb, gripping it tightly.
Royce let out a soft, emotional laugh, tears rolling down his handsome face. "She's beautiful, Della... she's the most precious thing in the world."
"What should we name her?" Della asked softly, looking up at him.
Royce looked into Della’s warm brown eyes, his heart overflowing with love. "Hope. Hope Calloway. Because she represents the bright future you brought into my dark life."

Della smiled through her tears, kissing the baby’s forehead softly. "Hope... welcome to the world, Hope."
Outside the glass windows, the city lights sparkled like a blanket of diamonds. The dark shadows of the past—the violence, the greed, the poverty, and the fear—were completely gone, washed away by the birth of a new beginning.
