Chapter 19 - The Verdict and Restitution

The courtroom was quiet and solemn when the federal judge handed down the final sentencing verdict for Ethan Cole.

Dressed in his orange jumpsuit, his hair unstyled and his once-arrogant posture completely broken, Ethan refused to look up as the magistrate read the formal judgment.

'Mr. Cole, your actions represent a severe abuse of trust, calculated corporate sabotage, and premeditated grand larceny,' the judge stated, his voice ringing with absolute authority. 'You manipulated personal relationships, breached secure digital networks, and attempted to plunder an enterprise built through decades of dedicated labor. You are hereby sentenced to twelve years in federal custody, followed by five years of supervised release, with full financial restitution mandated to Bennett Event Systems.'

The gavel came down with a sharp, final crack.

Ethan was handcuffed by the federal marshals and led away through the side exit, disappearing behind heavy metal doors that closed with a dull, heavy thud.

In the back row of the gallery, Claire sat quietly, her hands folded neatly in her lap. She didn't feel triumph, nor did she feel anger. She felt only a profound, immovable sense of closure. The balance had been restored. The debt had been collected in full.
